General Summary of Position:
The Alzheimer’s Association provides a variety of education, information, support
services, and advocacy to persons with dementia, their families, healthcare professionals
and the community. As the number of persons affected by Alzheimer’s disease escalates,
there is an increased demand for programs and services.
With this demand, the Alzheimer’s Association also requires more funding to provide
these needed services. This intern position is needed to assist with the Alzheimer’s
Association’s signature event, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. The intern will be
assisting the Manager, Special Events for either the Chicago or Chicago-Metro Walks for
the duration of the summer. This will include, but not be limited to: supporting the Walk
Manager with fundamental administrative duties on a daily basis, team recruitment, assist
with Committee and events leading up to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, communicate
with all event participants and help plan/execute logistics for the main event.
Schedule Requirements:
Three days a week for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Length of Commitment:
May – August, 2014 (some availability through September 30 is a plus)
Essential Job Functions:
-Recruit teams through warm and cold calling outreach.
-Calling past and new Walk team captains weekly to check in, train participants on online
tools and increase retention.
-Support Walk Manager in event preparation, logistics planning and securing in-kind
donations.
-Using internal donor database to communicate with 2014 Walk teams and participants.
-Assist in communicating to committee members and other association volunteers.
-Assist in the planning and facilitation of pre-Walk recruitment events and kick-offs.
-Aid with daily tasks of organizing materials, mailings and compiling spreadsheets.
Minimum Requirements:
Students who apply must currently be enrolled as a full time student at a college or
university. Car and driver’s license are required (will reimburse mileage). This position
requires an individual to be self-motivated and committed to seeing a project from start to
finish. Student should be proficient in Microsoft Office and have strong communication
skills. Strong organizational and customer service skills are a must.
Training Requirements:
Training will be provided on the job by supervisor.
