Communications 27200 Hilliard Blvd. Westlake, OH 44145 440.250.1258 www.wlake.org bonvissuto@wlake.org Feb. 9, 2014 TEXT MESSAGING COMES TO SCHOOLMESSENGER NOTIFICATION SYSTEM The Westlake City Schools are adding text messaging capabilities to SchoolMessenger, the parent notification system we now use for phone calls and emails regarding parent outreach, emergency broadcasts, school closings, student attendance alerts and other communication needs. The system will be configured to send text messages to recipients who agree to receive them. We are encouraging parents to confirm we have accurate cell phone numbers and ask them to participate. There are only two requirements to receive messages via SMS text: 1. An opt-in confirmation from the parent’s wireless device. 2. Completion of student information through Registration Gateway, the online student information system. ONY CELL PONE NUMBERS IN THE SCHOOLMESSENGER DATABASE VIA REGISTRATION GATEWAY WILL BE INCLUDED IN TEXT MESSAGING. To Opt-In to Receive Text Messages: Reply “Yes” to an opt-in text message that went out Feb. 9. Text “Yes” to 68453 from each wireless device on which you wish to receive text messages. To receive texts on multiple devices, each device must opt in by texting “Yes” to 68453. After you text “Yes,” you will receive a reply back from SchoolMessenger confirming your status. If you receive what appears to be an error message, it most likely means you do not have text messaging enabled on your wireless device. SchoolMessenger does not charge recipients for text messages they receive, however, wireless providers may charge for individual text messages, depending on your plan. To Opt Out: Don’t opt-in Don’t reply to any opt-in invitation messages Text “STOP” to 68453 at any time Opt out online at http://schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg.
