Truly dust we are, and to dust we shall return:
Through the forty days of Lent, help us to follow you and to find you: in the discipline of praying and in the drudgery of caring – in whatever we deny ourselves, and whatever we set ourselves to learn or do.
Help us to discover you in our loneliness and in community, in our emptiness and our fulfilment, in our sadness and our laughter.
Help us to follow you on the journey to Jerusalem to the waving palms of the people’s hope, to their rejection, to the cross and empty tomb.
Help us to perceive new growth amid the ashes of the old.
Help us, carrying your cross, to be signs of your Kingdom.
Amen.
and truly yours we are, and to you we shall return.
Help this to be a time of turning round and beginning again.
A kind person gives their time to help others
A kind person stands by their friends in time of need
A kind person shares with their friends
A kind person is polite
A kind person cares about other person’s feelings
Lent is a period of forty days during the
Church’s liturgical year, which begins on
Ash Wednesday. It is a time for Christians to turn away from sinfulness - to have a change of heart - as they prepare for the joyous feast of Easter. It is a time for prayer, penance and works of charity for others.
As we move through the Lenten Season, we realize the depth of God’s love for us in sending His only Son, Jesus, to be our role model. His powerful gentleness reminds us of the need to be humble and forgiving. Through personal fasting and Lenten promises, this season allows us the opportunity to walk with Jesus during His difficult journey.
We await the promise of new life as the Lenten season brings us closer to the death and resurrection of our Lord.
May God be with us during our Lenten struggles and may each one of us be blessed and renewed with the hope of new life.

School Council
The next School Council meeting will be held Tuesday, April
9, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. All members of the St. Vincent de Paul community are welcome to attend.
March Break
This year our March Break is from Monday, March 11 to
Friday, March 15. Students will return to class on Monday,
March 18, 2013. Please note that our Lent Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. on this first day back.
Indoor shoes
To keep our hallways, classrooms and gym clean and safe, please ensure that your child has a pair of shoes to wear inside the school.
Children may not wear outside shoes and/or boots in their classrooms.
Running shoes with non-marking soles are required for participation in the physical education programme.
Kiss and Ride..Please be patient!!!
A reminder to all parents to pull all the way forward in the school driveway when dropping off and picking up your children at the end of the day. This cooperation by not parking illegally goes a long way in ensuring that every child safely exits and enters the school property. Please do not leave your car to take your child to the playground. Your compliance and patience goes such a long way as we work together for the safety of all the children at St. Vincent de Paul.
BULLYING STRATEGIES
Parents can also be helpful in addressing bullying behaviour with their children.
Helping children understand how to treat one another and to value and make friends is an important, positive step to eliminating bullying behaviour.
The Top Ten Ways to Keep Your
Friends.
1.
Show them kindness and respect.
2.
Stick up for them.
3.
Be supportive when your friends need help and advice.
4.
Tell the truth but be kind about it.
5.
If you hurt a friend, say you’re sorry.
6.
If you make a promise, keep it.
7.
Put some effort into your friendships; otherwise your friends might feel neglected.
8.
Don’t try to change your friends- accept them the way they are.
9.
Treat your friends the way you want them to treat you.
10.
If a friend hurts you and apologizes, accept the apology.

Cell Phones at the School
The use of cell phones during the school is discouraged. If you need for safety purposes for your child to carry a cell phone, it should only be used from home to school and from school to home. We request that all cell phones remain off and out of sight during school hours. This includes recesses and lunch breaks if students remain on school property. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Criminal Reference Checks for Volunteers
It is the policy of Dufferin-Peel that any school volunteer who will come into regular contact with students ( as opposed to volunteers who participate in a one day activity with
Supervision ) will be required to produce a Criminal Reference
Check or Criminal Offence Declaration prior to being accepted as a volunteer. Please see the office staff if you wish to be a
School Volunteer.
SUPERVISION IN THE MORNING
– SCHOOL YARD
A reminder to parents dropping off children in the morning that supervision in the yard does not begin until 8:45 a.m. even when it is very cold outside. Parents must not drop off their child before this time because there is no staff available to supervise students. This also means students are not to enter the school throught the front doors. The front doors are for parents, school guests, and sadly LATE students .
Intermediate Basketball
Congratulations to our Intermediate
Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Teams!
Both teams played with focus and determination and had very successful seasons.
Our Girls’ team brought home a banner for finishing second in the
Mississauga East Family. A huge thanks to the coaches for their efforts with all our sports teams. We are starting to get our Junior Basketball teams up and running.
St. Vincent de Paul Chess Team
We are thrilled to announce that once again, thanks to Ms. Ricardo and Mr. Krol
, we will have a chess team comprised of students from all divisions. We are excited at the prospect of competing at the Family level competition. The
Mississauga East Family Tournament is April 9, 2013.
Two Fifty Tuesdays – Pizza Lunch
Our Toonie Tuesday Pizza Lunches have been a huge success! A reminder that it is the expectation of students and parents to use the envelope process and pre-order..cash orders on the day will not be accepted!!! As always, thank you for your support.
PLASP- Before and After School Programs
PLASP Child Care Services operates a Before and After
School Program at St. Vincent de Paul School. This program begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until the school day begins.
A nutritious breakfast is served daily.
Fee Assistance is Available. To register your child, visit the
PLASP Program Director before regular school hours . For further information, call 905-890-1711 or visit the website at www.plasp.com
EQAO
Our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the
Provincial EQAO assessments during the weeks of May 27 th –
June 7 th
. It is very important that your child be present at this time. Further information will follow.
A reminder to Grade 3 and 6 parents of our Student/Parent
EQAO night on March 5, 2013 at 6:30.
We are looking for
100% attendance. A hearty congratulations and thank you to those teachers who will give up their free time in the evening to help their students.
LATE GRADE 6-8 STUDENTS
Older students who are continually late, cause additional concerns. Secondary schools begin classes at 8:05a.m. This means that students who presently are in the habit of arriving between
9:10- 9:20 a.m. will be at risk of missing and perhaps failing their first period class. The skill of punctuality must be instilled early. Children do not necessarily understand or respect the consequences of tardiness. Please help us help them by ensuring that your children are on time for school. The front doors are for parents, school guests, and sadly LATE students .
COLD AND FLU SEASON
With the fluctuations in temperatures, the cold and flu season often occurs in the month of
March. Please keep your child at home when they become ill. A child who is sick and coughing, etc…. is not able to learn and runs the risk of infecting others.
Remember that a child who is well enough to come to school is also well enough to go outside at recess.
There will be more details to follow but we are giving the School
Community notice that our School
Talent Show will take on June 12,
2013. There will be a daytime show and also an evening show on June 12,
2013. An individual newsletter will be produced to give details on rehearsals, themes, group activities, responsibilities, etc.
ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER
We hope everyone enjoys receiving this newsletter electronically. Please continue to spread the word to other parents who wish to receive this newsletter electronically. A select number of hard copy newsletters will always be available at the front desk in the school office.
We have already had a large number of calls regarding the
Board Calendar. Please note that the last day of the school year for classes in both Elementary and Secondary School is

For our Grade 8 Graduates —the
Graduation Ceremonies will be the evening of Tuesday June
