John Facey ————————————— Dates to Remember: MARCH BREAK - 14th - 18th Good Friday - March 25th no school for students Easter Monday - March 28th no school for students Principal Message: We marked the beginning of Lent with our Ash Wednesday Liturgy, on February 10th. The season of Lent is a time of preparation for the feast of Easter. Lent is a very significant time in our liturgical year as Catholics. We are called to examine our lives, to change our hearts and answer God’s call to follow Him faithfully. During the forty days of Lent, our spiritual journey takes us through a time of conversion, of fasting, almsgiving and prayer. Our Lenten journey along with our spiritual growth continued with our Lenten mass that was held on March 2nd, in celebration with Father Facey. During the season of Lent, we encourage everyone to give to others, through kind words, positive actions and generous offerings. We may offer our time or money, talents or joys, love or hope. We are called to be servants like Jesus. In prayer, we are asked to look at habits, attitudes and behaviours that we need to change. The season of Lent gives us the opportunity to change and grow spiritually and to be more fully enriched in our Faith. The culmination of our Lenten jouney is the celebration of Easter, when we witness the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. All are invited to attend our Easter Mass to be held on April 19, at 9:30 at the school. Virtue Assembly - April 1st at 11:15 M. Strudwick VIRTUE FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH— KINDNESS During the month of March, we celebrate the Virtue of Kindness. Kindness is about more than just pretending to be nice. It is about helping and playing with others because we want to, not because we feel we have to. Kindness is the act of loving and giving generously to others as God does. A kind person…. Is gentle and sensitive to others Stands by their friends in time of need Shares their time and talents Says nice things about others from the heart Always looks for ways to be helpful Treats others with compassion ________________________ St. Patrick Parish Rev. Observing Lent helps to cultivate the spiritual discipline of making personal sacrifices, reminding us of the importance of spiritual truths over earthly goods. Morning Mass : 8:15 Monday to Saturday _________________________ Almsgiving The season of Lent is the time for almsgiving. We are called to share generously with those in need, so we can truly appreciate all the blessings that God has bestowed on us. Our gifts can be varied. We can give of our talents or skills. We can share our love or prayers. The season of Lent gives us the spiritual opportunity to change and grow. Litany of Challenge Encourage us and challenge us Loving God, stretch our hearts and minds. Encourage us and challenge us. To reach out to a heart broken friend. Encourage us and challenge us. To listen to the voices of the ignored. Encourage us and challenge us. Students presented speeches in their classmates and then those selected presented to the junior and intermediates classes, on Feb. 24, from which school representatives were selected. Congratulations to, Ethan M., David R., Lucas M., and Erik S. who were our finalists chosen to represent BTOC on February 28, at the formal Public Speaking Contest sponsored by the CWL of St. Patrick's Church. Public Speaking takes many hours of research, writing and practice to make this event so successful. Thank you to all students and teachers for your extra efforts in support of the public speaking competition, and especially to Ms. Shepherd for organizing this event. HONOUR ROLL: Congratulations to all students for the many academic achievements of first term. The following students in Grades 7 and 8 have been recognized for their overall average of 80% or more first term. Job well done, and keep up the extra effort. Grade 8 Mateo A. John M. Grade 7 Shanna May C. Ian D. Lucas M. Jennifer P. Erik S. Arrive on Time is a Must It is an expectation that all students arrive on time and be prepared for class. Late arrival is a disruption to the class, and students miss valuable instructional time. Please encourage and help your child to develop this important life skill. Arriving at school on time will allow them to be present to join their class in lining up for entry at the bell, as well as being present for the singing of O Canada and participation in opening prayers. Please be aware that children who consistently arrive late for school will be serving a “Make Up Time” during first recess, where they are to report to the front foyer with a book to read. Save the Dates Thursday May 19th evening performance. Friday May 20th matinee performance. Ticket sale information will be forth coming.
