May 13, 2016 From Room 4: “Owl“ Weekly News Contact Information READING WORKSHOP Email: During reading workshop we: Sharon.rane@lz95.org • Explored words that “pop” in poetry Classroom: 540-2869 • Looked at story elements to help find the main idea in poems that tell stories • Used “fix up” strategies to help us understand confusing parts of poems During Literacy Stations we: Mrs. Rane 1st Grade Office: 438-5986 • • • During our math time this week we: Subtracted multiples of 10 on the decade Subtracted multiples of 10 off the decade Used place value and the hundred chart to subtract two-digit numbers Took end of the year math assessments • Listened to Baby Rattlesnake • • Read a poem with a partner and wrote about it’s mood and feeling During our science time we: • Played the “Oh no Toad!” game to work on the long /o/ sound • Watched a video about forests • Read about deserts and prairies and then compared and contrasted them using a venn diagram • Read books on myON • Wrote about land and water habitats 4 R’s Today we wrapped up our SEL lessons for the year. Students shared a favorite memory and something that they have learned from this experience. Writer’s Workshop Students have finished writing their first creative writing stories and are busy illustrating their books. Junior Achievement Today we welcomed two Baxter employees to our classroom. They taught us about wants and needs and why we need to work and go to school.
