Past tense (preterite)
• There are two key words from our chapter
that tells us we will be using the preterite
tense:
ayer
anoche
• We use the preterite tense to tell about a
completed action, an action done in the
past.
-AR verbs
• The endings for the –AR verbs in the
preterite are the following:
-é
-aste
-ó
-amos
-asteis
-aron
Verbs that have a spelling change:
• Verbs like sacar and tocar have a small
spelling change in the YO form:
Yo- saqué
Yo-toqué
• Why? Because we need to keep the “K”
sound.
