Farewell & Welcome
We would like express our thanks to Mrs. Frisoli
who has continued to serve as our part-time
Assistant Secretary. We expect Mrs. Cameron to
return shortly, but in the meantime, Mrs. Frisoli has
provided wonderful support to us in the office.
Report Cards
Report cards will be distributed to the students on
Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Class placements for the new school year will be
announced on the first day of school. Holding off
on class placements until the first day allows for
adjustments as new registrations come in.
Hopefully, it will reduce the number of changes
which will need to be made on the first PD Day –
Friday, September 14, 2012.
Sunscreen
Over exposure to the sun can
cause skin damage. Students
are
reminded
to
take
precautions to protect the
skin. Some recommendations
to reduce the effects of sun
damage are:
- wear protective clothing to cover the skin
- wear a hat to protect the eyes and the skin
- wear sun block, stay away from direct sunlight
where possible
- know your skin type: fair skinned people burn
easier.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to review these
strategies with their children.
Transportation
On Saturday, August 25, 2012, the transportation
department will be holding their annual YOUNG
RIDER ORIENTATION DAY for ALL Kindergarten
children. We encourage you to participate by
bringing your kindergarten children and elementary
aged siblings to a one-hour program between the
hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Bus rides and a
school bus safety video are only part of the
informative fun. All Young Rider Days have been a
tremendous successes. To confirm your attendance
and preferred time slot, please call Parkview
Transit at 905-846-1070 in June 2012. The location
for this training is Humberview Secondary School,
135 Kingsview Drive in Bolton.
Last minute calls
We have numerous calls that come in between 2:45 p.m.
and 3:00 p.m. each day asking us to let family members
know of a change in home time routine. While we will
make every effort to let a child know of a change in plan,
this should be the exceptional circumstance in times of
emergency. Please ensure that your child knows to come
to the office and wait in case you are going to be late, or
to see a neighbour in case you are unable to be home.
We strive to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum,
so these messages should be reserved for the rare
emergencies which inevitably occur.
Holydays
Throughout July, Holy Family Church is offering a
weekly Summer Camp program for students from Grade
1 to Grade 6. Students are invited for arts and crafts,
sports, music, faith and friendship. Please call 905-8571938 for more information – only a few spots left.
Grandfriends
Our Student Faith Ambassadors participated for a
fourth year in the
“Grandfriends” program where
groups of students travelled to the King Nursing home
and spent time with the seniors who live there. The
students and residents of the home enjoyed making
crafts and spending time together.
We wish to thank Mme Attard, Mme Filippo, Mme LaRosa
and Mrs. DeFranco for their time and efforts in
encouraging the students to contribute to their larger
community.
Volunteer thanks
Thanks to all the parents who have helped us throughout
the year. In particular our school excursions require a
supervisor ratio, for which we rely on parent support. In
addition, sports teams need parent drivers. All these
volunteers along with the classroom helpers contribute
much to our school. We would like to recognize our
volunteers at a Volunteer Tea on Thursday, June 7 from
3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m..
Thanks to the community
We would like to extend thanks to the community for
their generosity in providing support for the families
affected by the fire in the neighbourhood.
Many
classes, community businesses and individuals came to us
asking if we could provide a means to make a
contribution.
We are grateful to have had the
opportunity to be a part of this kind outpouring of
community support.
Student Monitors
A very special thanks goes out to our lunchroom
supervisors/student monitors who have served us
this year. Mrs. Sanii, Mrs. Guglielmi, Mrs. Piedra,
Mrs. Chiarotto, Mrs. Szulc and Mrs. Giuliano have
been here over lunch to supervise students inside
and outside. We are grateful for their dedication in
serving our community.
Any support that others may offer for the fall
would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested
in helping, please submit your name for
consideration at the office.
Eco-Club
Special thanks to the Eco-team which includes
staff, students and parents for their work on our
front gardens. We are now in our second year of
renewal at the front of the school. Special thanks
to Mr. Barnett and some of our parents including
Mrs. Cardoza and Mrs. Coulombe for their work in
ensuring that the plan comes together. Great care
has been taken to include plants which are part of
our studies at school and also plants which we will
see in the spring and fall while students are in
school. Thanks to everyone for your hard work.
Rosary Club
Throughout the month of May, a group of students
had the opportunity to pray the Rosary at
lunchtime. They gathered in the school, led the
school in a decade of the rosary each day and their
last prayer session took place in the Peace Garden.
Thank you to all the staff and students who took
part in praying for special intentions.
Storage of Medication
We would like to remind all parents who
have had medication stored at the school
for their child that it will be sent home on
the last day. We do not retain medications
from one year to the next. New medications and
the proper forms for storage will need to be filled
out for the new school year. We will send an
individual reminder to all parents affected by this
policy. Please be reminded that Epi-Pens have a
shelf life of one year.
Please remember to notify the office
Please let us know if your family will be moving out
of our school area over the summer months.
Transfer papers are required at the other school.
Diversity Conference
On May 18, 2012, 28 of our grade 6 students
participated in a day-long conference at St. Marguerite
D’Youville Secondary School that raised awareness and
fostered discussion about the diverse community in
which we live. Discussion topics included, race, economic
status and special needs. Much was learned by all.
Thanks to Mme LaRosa, Mme Filippo, Mrs. Champagne
and Mrs. Parker who attended with our students.
From the Library
A huge thank you to all the parent
volunteers who helped out in the
library and at the book fairs this
year.
Your dedicated is truly
appreciated by staff and students.
Thanks to Mrs. Milani and Mrs.
Grecco for their weekly help and to the many others who
help during Book Fairs.
Book Fair: Thank you once again for the wonderful
support given to the book Fair. It was a huge success.
Monies raised will go towards buying new books for the
library.
Student Safety
Please remind your children to come and go directly
when travelling from home to school or vice versa.
There is greater safety when children travel with one
another. Therefore, they should not be delaying at the
playground or visiting with other families without prior
parental consent. Please discuss street safety with your
son/daughter. Once again we remind you that the buses
are for bus students only. The school buses cannot
accommodate friends who may be going to someone
else’s house after school.
Lost and Found
It is amazing that we have so many unclaimed items in
our Lost and Found Bin. Please stop by the school and
have a look before the end of the school year if your
child has some clothing items missing. Any remaining
will be given to charity at the end of June.
Girls on the Run
June 17th is the day of the big run!
Congratulations to the students and
parents/staff coaches who have
been working together to prepare for
this big day. Their support for one another has been
inspirational for all involved.
Busing Information
2012-13 BUS ROUTES
The deadline for any changes to your busing
information is the first week of July.
Please contact the Transportation
Department at 905-890-6000. For
specific information, you will need to
use the Ontario Education Number
(OEN) found at the top of each
student’s report card. We would like
to remind you that Courtesy Seat
Permission is granted for one year only. The new
policy of integrated ridership will continue next
year. We will be sharing our buses with James
Bolton School. This will increase efficiency by
filling the buses with only the students eligible for
transportation. Therefore, anyone who is now riding
the bus because of courtesy seats being available
this year should make transportation or walking
plans for September. There will be even fewer or
no courtesy seats for next year.

Water Safety
Children playing in and around storm sewers and
watercourses, entering storm sewers through the
outfalls, and entering storm sewers through access
covers can lead to danger. Please share with your
child(ren):
• Water flows in storm sewers and watercourses
are unpredictable and may change quickly;
• Toxic gases may be present;
• Tragic falls could take place; and
• Access is restricted and therefore, rescue
attempts are difficult
First Day of School
The first day of the new school year for students is
Tuesday, September 4th. School begins at 8:30 a.m.
Signs will be posted around the school building
directing students to their grade level meeting
place. The school office will open its doors the week
of August 27th for new school registrations.
After School Security
Students must be diligent on gathering all materials
prior to the end of the school day. Once
dismissed, there is no supervision provided
to students. Students and/or parents
should not be returning to the school
after school hours to retrieve books or
belongings. In order to ensure the safety of the
workplace, no students or parents may wander to
classrooms after school.
Similarly, please note that students who are playing
nearby after school, do not have access to school
washrooms. Once students are dismissed, cleaning
and preparations are put in place for the following
day – no students, other than those here for a
specific school activity, should be in the building at
that time.
Back by Popular Demand
Once again we will offer an evening of Zumba
Dancing with Soraya Lunardo for our families.
When this was offered in March it was a great hit.
Therefore, it is offered once again for any adults
who can come with their children on June 13 from
6:30 to 7:30. This is made possible through a
Parent Reaching Out Grant provided through the
Ministry.
Grade 8 Graduation
At 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June
28, Father Larry Leger will
celebrate Mass at Holy Family Church
for our graduates and their families.
Following Mass, diplomas and awards will be
given as part of our Graduation exercises. We are
grateful to the Pastoral Team at Holy Family Church
for allowing us to celebrate the achievements of our
graduates at the church. Congratulations to all our
graduates and best of luck to them in the future
Summertime Repairs
We anticipate that there will be ongoing work being done
at the school throughout the summer. The roof will be
repaired, as well as other school yard improvements will
be made while the students are away. We ask for
everyone’s cooperation to ensure that the school yard is
free of all children while construction work is being
done.
Track and Field
Best wishes to all the track and field
participants who will be representing our school at the
Family Meet June 12 and to those we hope will qualify
for the Board finals on June 22. Thank you to the many
teachers who are in the midst of working with these
athletes. We are also appreciative of those parents who
