First Reading: March 26, 2013 Second Reading: March 26, 2013 Pass: Yes Fail: Other: Bill 11-13-S Funding for the Creation of Three Summer Session Scholarships PURPOSE: For the Student Government Association of Western Kentucky University to allocate $1,059 from legislative discretionary funding to create three $353 summer session scholarships. WHEREAS: The funding will create three, need-based scholarships to be allocated to students enrolled in one or more summer session courses, and WHEREAS: Each scholarship will cover the cost of one credit hour of undergraduate credit for the summer session, and WHEREAS: These scholarships will be open to both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a summer course at the main campus, a satellite campus, or online, and WHEREAS: Students attending Study Away or Study Abroad programs will be ineligible, and WHEREAS: According to the Division of Extended Learning & Outreach, “80% of students who graduated from WKU in four years took at least one summer or winter course,” and WHEREAS: These scholarships will be another service the Student Government Association of Western Kentucky University can offer the student body, and WHEREAS: The Executive Cabinet will be responsible for generating an application for the summer session scholarships and determining the recipients. THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Student Government Association of Western Kentucky University will allocate $1,059 from legislative discretionary funding to create three $353 summer session scholarships.
