MARY, OUR MODEL IN PRAYER

All praise and glory are Yours, almighty Father.

You have given us Your Son Jesus to save us from sin.

We praise You for choosing Mary to be His mother, for teaching her to believe Your message, for helping her to accept Your holy will.

Strengthen us by Your Spirit to be like Mary: to ponder

Your word in our hearts, to obey Your will, to love Your

Son, to sing Your praises every day.

Father, we praise You through Jesus Christ Your Son in the love of Your Spirit, forever and ever.

Amen

MAY IS THE MONTH OF MARY

May is the month we dedicate to Mary, the Mother of our

Saviour, Jesus. We celebrate Mary, who humbly and gladly accepted God‟s will when she said “Yes” to our

Lord. As we honour Mary and all mothers, we are reminded of the many blessings mothers bestow upon their children each and every day. Let us keep Mary and all mothers in our thoughts and prayers so that the honour and respect they deserve is not limited to one day or month in the year .

THE SACRAMENTS

Confirmation

Our Grade 8 students received the Sacrament of

Confirmation from Guardian Angel‟s Parish at St.

Edmund Campion School on April 27th. The gift of the

Holy Spirit was certainly present during the celebration.

May God Bless you all as you continue on your faith journey.

First Holy Communion

June 9th, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Malta Avenue.

ARE YOU PLANNING TO MOVE?

We are in the process of planning staffing and organization of classes for the 2013 - 2014 school year. If you are planning to move out of the St. Bonaventure School area, please let the office know. This will be of great assistance to us as we make plans for the coming school year.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH

This month we celebrated the virtue of Acceptance.

One of the great wonders of the world we live in is that no two people are exactly alike. We share many biological families or national identity or cultural and ethnic identity but we are all unique and distinct.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL

School Council meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the school library. The final meeting for this year was May 16. Thank you very much for your dedication and support this year.

KERNELS POPCORN: Fridays ( $2.00 per bag)

PEDICULOSIS

A problem which seems to occur at least once a year in most schools is Pediculosis or head lice. Head lice are parasites which have been common among human beings for centuries. They are not connected in any way with dirt, neglect, and so on. Anyone can be infested with them.

Unfortunately, in recent years, they have become quite common throughout North America. In order to control these pests, we shall do the following and request your full cooperation.

If even one case is found in the school, we shall inform all parents of children in that class. We will be monitoring friends and classmates, however, we would ask that you also check your own children and if you find them to be infested, we ask you to let us know so that we can help you get the proper treatment and take the necessary precautionary measures. Even if cases are not reported from the school, it is a wise precaution to check your children periodically.

If your children are infested, we will be asking you to keep them out of school until after they have been treated with the correct shampoo.

If we all cooperate with these procedures, we may not entirely escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under control quickly.

Our Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the

Provincial EQAO assessments on the dates indicated below. It is very important that your child be present at this time. Further information will follow.

Grade 3 assessment schedule:

May 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and June 3, 4

Grade 6 assessment schedule:

May 27, 28, 29, 30,31, and June 3,4

TRAFFIC SAFETY

Our school driveway is a matter of great concern in regards to the safety of our students. Therefore, we are reminding you again to use the Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane to drop off or pick up your child .

You cannot park your vehicle in the Kiss „n‟ Ride lane before school or at dismissal time during the day. When using the Kiss „N Ride program to drop off or pick up students, please remember:

 We clear the Kiss „N Ride usually in 10 minutes.

Please be patient we are all BUSY but SAFETY comes first.

 The inside lane (closest to the school) is the only lane where cars can stop to drop off their children in the morning and pick up their children in the afternoon.

Dri vers should not be par king their vehicle to walk to the school to pick up their child.

 The outside lane is a drive thru lane . PLEASE

WATCH YOUR SPEED. This means that there should be no stopping and/or loading or unloading of students.

 If your child is not at the Kiss „N Ride area at dismissal time, please park in one of the spaces available in the parking lot or circle around once more.

 Students are not permitted to cross the parking lot unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 Please do not walk your children through the two

Kiss ‘N Ride lanes. This is very unsafe and drivers may not see you in time. Take the time to walk around the Kiss ‘N Ride lanes.

 There is no parking in the driveway. This is a fire zone and blocks the flow of traffic.

FRONT DRIVEWAY

The front of the school is for BUSES ONLY

CARS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PARK, DROP

OFF or PICK UP students in the driveway or bus lane located at the front of the school.

Please refrain from blocking the driveway so that designated Board personnel can access it when needed.

DRESS CODE

School Board Policy states that all students are expected to dress to meet standards of neatness, cleanliness, modesty and good taste. Certain items such as shirts with inappropriate logos/wording, bare shoulders and midriffs, tight or torn clothing and short shorts are contrary to both the philosophy of our

Catholic School teachings and to the standards we set as parents and educators.

With warmer weather already here, we remind all students of dress code expectations. Your assistance and support are greatly appreciated.

Primary students are encouraged to have an extra dry shirt, pants and socks in their backpack in the event their clothing gets wet or soiled.

Me to We

“Is building a school in Haiti”

All are welcome to join in celebrating our fundraising success

$8500

Date: Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Time: 9:00 am

Location: St. Bonaventure

May was a busy month for St. Bonaventure‟s Me to We committee. Students and staff from all divisions trained two afternoons each week to take part in our first “St. Bonaventure‟s Marathon.” It was an extremely successful event with many smiles and pledges of more than $1600. Also, the Me to We committee organized a Family Movie Night. Families enjoyed a fun-filled evening of treats and watched “Wreck it Ralph.” These 2 events helped us reach our long-term goal of raising enough money to build a school in

Haiti! We thank you for all your support. Way to go St. Bonaventure!
