Report of the SGA Executive
Report of the Legislative Vice President, Brock McMorran
I hope you all had a great fall break and ready to get back to all the great events you all have planned for the coming weeks. The Executives spent some of our break updating our platform and setting the stage for the coming weeks. Having said that, I wanted to update you on the projects I am heading up!
1.) MOSIAC, a group compiled by last year’s Execs (as well as OMA), is yet to get off get the ground for this year. I will be meeting with SDoD Nia Williams on Wednesday and will then follow up with Mr. Robert Clay, Director of OMA, so ensure that this gets launched, hopefully by the beginning of November.
2.) As mentioned last week, I am taking a look at why Xavier students pay so much for software. I will be presenting my findings in a meeting with John Mercer, Director of
Purchasing and will get his input on the situation.
3.) For the new SACers- I made a mistake. I have resent the WhenisGood as I have accidently shredded my access code and am still missing responses from Colleen, Ted,
Blake, and Kate. Please fill this out ASAP so that I can get a time set up.
4.) Part of the Division of Student Life and Leadership’s sustainability goals revolve around the use of print material. I know it has been mentioned before, but we are going through paper and toner like it is our job. I understand, some things must be printed, but please keep in mind how much you are using and how other students are essentially paying for you to use the printer. If our behavior with this doesn’t change, we will be looking at policies aimed at lessening the usage amount.
Downstairs printing is covered by the university? Yes. How do you limit printing to student when it’s open? I believe most of the printing is coming from SGA, not random students.
Students did not pay a fee for you to do your personal printing, they paid for SGA printing.
Report of the President, Ryan Alleman
I have a relatively short report today, but I thought I would give a quick overview of a few of my projects.
First, reimbursements for taking graduate exams. Last year I began researching a program which the Student Government at Loyola New Orleans has implemented for reimbursing students who take graduate entrance exams. Essentially each year, Loyola's SGA sets aside funding to cover graduate exams on a first-come, first-served basis. Each student is eligible for one reimbursement throughout the course of their undergraduate career. After reviewing the Loyola program, this is a program that we are interested in developing a needs assessment for at Xavier. I met, late last week, with Roger Bosse - director of Graduate
Services - to get his perception of project. Roger seemed to think that this was an interesting opportunity and so we will now spend sometime reviewing the number of students that ultimately take graduate exams.
Next, short term car rental. As most of you already know, we have been interested in further exploring a short term car rental service such as ZipCar or WeCar. In speaking with Auxiliary
Services, I learned that this is a project that their new Associate Director in charge of parking is interested in pursuing. I have been I touch with new director and will be meeting with them shortly.
Finally, safety. Last week I met with Dan Schloemer - director of Administrative Services to discuss Safety Communications. I will follow up with Deb Del Valle on the potential for adding a student representative to the Safety Communications Team. Dan also shared a significant amount of information with me regarding the safety initiatives which will be funded as a result of the university budget surplus. If you would like more information on those initiatives, please let me know.
Report of the Administrative Vice President, Lydia Gerlach
(Read by Morgan)
Hey SAC, sorry I couldn’t be here, I’m being interviewed with Nielsen! :D My report is even shorter than usual, so listen up!
I.
Cyber Security Tabling Cancelled
I received an email this morning from Judy Molnar stating that cowboy themed tabling for cyber security month is cancelled due to their lack of staffing this week.
II.
We will try to work something out for next semester. I am still working with information resources to help them better inform the students of all of their resources.
LGBTQ
The final details are being hashed out. My hopes to get it out soon!

Why do we need people to like Facebook page? Facebook shut down our group, Morgan started a new group at the beginning of fall, now we are trying to populate it. We use the group to advertise. Also, when we need to give up-dates about an event, we can send a message out. You can suggest friend to page to get more likes.
Where is the corner stone by the tree? It is no longer a “corner-stone.”
What about the A lot parking lot condition? Lot was built for temporary use. That lot will be
torn up during mixed-use development ground breaking. Campus police believes it is well lit.
Report of the SGA Resource Assistant, Crystal Guffey
Last night I went to Sushi Rolling. It was a lot of fun and now I am an expert sushi roller.
As of this last week all SGA members should have access to the T drive.
You’ll notice something different about your Senate minutes this week. In the pursuit of building a brand for the OSI office, us staff are now using the 9 point Veranda font for anything in print (excluding more creative literature). We have also started to use a consistent email signature. Just an FYI in case you wanted to play along.
Did you know that the Search bar on Xavier’s main page will pull things from our Senate
Minutes? Xavier’s website uses Google Custom Search as their search engine, so the more you use certain terms or names the farther up the search engine list they will appear? I know I use the search bar almost daily, so you could in effect use the minutes as a way to disseminate information.
Two office use matters we need to address:
The toner cartridge for the SGA printer is a whopping $150. I’m bringing this up because we have gone through a whole cartridge in 30 days. That’s $5 a day just for ink, if you add in the paper you’ve gone through that is $6.25 per day. To put this in perspective your print/copy budget for the whole fiscal year is $1,500 (that’s up $500 from last year). That includes the ink for the laser printer, the color inkjet printer, and the fax machine; the cost of paper, and any upkeep there might be. YTD we have spent more than $500 in printing supplies. We can sustain printing at this rate, at the most, 162 days; we will run out of funding March 21 st .
The OSI office space next door where Mary, Leah, and Molly reside is mostly reserved for leadership and orientation folks. Feel free to stop by and visit, but if you want to work on one of the computers or at the table just ask first. Also, the supplies that are in the cabinet are for their OSI programs only. The reason for this is because those supplies are not paid by SGA funding. If you need anything use the supplies in the cabinets under the SGA mailboxes. If you don’t find what you are looking for ask me and I will order it. They want their space to be

Thanks to all who came on Sunday. Remember our meetings are sunday at 7 so if you have an event coming but please come and meet with us for that. Also we have been looking into some other promo ideas, so more to come on that in coming weeks.
What is the problem with digital signage? Part of issue is that the files are too big, system cannot handle them. (Sometimes they get sent to spam filter because they are too big) this is why color is messed up. Only SAC is having this issue.
