Green Team –
We are dedicated to saving the environment and helping to
reduce our individual “ecological footprints”. Come and take
part in our recycling program.
Peer TutorsStudent volunteers tutor their peers in various subject areas.
This is a community service hours opportunity. Application
forms are in the Students Services Department.
PIP Buddies Volunteer with our most dynamic students. Gain valuable
teaching skills working with our special needs students. This is
a community service hours opportunity.
Solidarity Action Committee Committed to creating a just world by working for peace,
fairness and equality everywhere. Campaigns include: Dec. 6th
Committee, Walk Against Male Violence, Solidarity Day and
No Sweat Campaign.
Nicaragua Project –
Uses a social justice framework to guide students in
educational, practical, and spiritual growth. Students involved
in the project have the opportunity to learn about Nicaragua and
its people through weekly meetings and/or travelling to the
country to live and work with the local community.
Open ArmsAll are welcome to participate in the Open Arms Club
which supports the well being of LGBTQ youth in our
school and promotes inclusivity and success of all students.
Open Arms activities include events held under the umbrella of
Social Justice Issues, Anti-Bullying Awareness and
Education and Safe School Initiatives, as well as extracurriculars such as field trips and participation in community
events.
Community Outreach Team Volunteer at the Knight’s of Columbus soup kitchen in
Brampton, collect warm clothing for the homeless, respond to
world crisis and much more! We are the “helping hands of
Christ” reaching out to those in need.
LEADERSHIP
Ambassadors –
Peer mentorship program that promotes school spirit. The
program strives to meet the needs of all students in our
community as well as welcoming those who are new to the
country. Ambassadors fundraise for various charities in our
school community as well as the global community.
Athletic Council Student leaders plan a variety of sporting events, including staffstudent games, feeder school tournaments and the annual Athletic
Banquet and Terry Fox Run. You will also see our members
volunteering at the board-wide Special Olympics and school
outreach events.
FBLA Future Business Leaders Association establishes students
occupational goals and helps them learn the value of community
and responsibility. We bring business and education together in a
positive working relationship. We host many activities such as
general fundraising and our annual IDEAOPOLIS Convention
Lady Jags –
Created to inspire and empower the female students at St. Joseph
Secondary. The LadyJags Mentorship and Leadership Club is a
group of young women dedicated to self improvement, goal
setting and education. The focus of this club is to get young
women of this school community to take a proactive approach to
their futures, and give them the basic skills that they need to
achieve their post secondary goals. Te leadership aspect of the
program stresses the importance of confidence, high self-esteem,
and cooperative skills, while the mentorship program encourages
girls to lead by example through selfless acts of kindnesses.
CHAPLAINCY MINISTRY TEAMS
Altar Servers and Lectors
Serve the Lord by assisting in mass. This group of dynamic
young people read scripture and assists our Parish Priests during
school masses.
Art Ministry In a spirit of faith, student artists prepare banners and
church/chapel environments for liturgies, liturgical seasons and
the spiritual themes of the year. Works of art are works for God!
L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Everyday) –
Be a bold witness to your faith.. From leading the rosary,
planning liturgies, peer ministry, social justice initiatives, to
attending Catholic rallies , vocation dinners, March for Life in
Ottawa – this is for you!
ST. JOSEPH
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Morning TeamDynamic, enthusiastic students who do the morning and
afternoon prayer and daily announcements for the school. Come
and develop your communication skills.
Retreat Leaders –
Senior faith leaders train in September to facilitate junior retreats
and lead ongoing faith formation for peers.
Student Council Elected students are responsible for proposing and running spiritbuilding student activities throughout the year. Our spirit weeks
are a great success. We also organize charity events. We have a
student liaison to each part of the St. Joe’s community:
chaplaincy, parent council, administration and student body.
Tutor-Link - An after school tutoring service offered at our
elementary schools. Grade 9 and 10 high academic students are
eligible to sign up as tutors at their former elementary schools.
Tutors will earn community service hours. For application form
please see Mrs. Jamieson in guidance.

MEDIA/COMMUNICATIONS
The Mirror – The School Newspaper. Reports on school
activities and events in a professionally produced newsprint
format. Literacy in many forms is promoted through news
articles, editorials, reviews, art, literature and photography.
Year Book Club - Help create memories that will last forever!
Compile, edit and produce this year’s year book.

SPECIAL INTERESTS
African-Caribbean Heritage Club (ACHC) –Come, explore
and celebrate the diversity and culture of the nations in these
regions, and share this information with the school community.
Join this group of dedicated students plan activities and events
for both Culture Shock and Black History Month. All students
are welcome.
Algonquin Canoe Club –
Come and explore as the voyageurs once did. This 3 night and 4
day adventure takes place in the fall under the Algonquin Park
skies. Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime learning
experience to canoe and camp along side experienced staff.
Anime Club –
Students work on creating a MAGNA-style book, which will
include drawings and other creations from each student.
Students are exposed to Anime through animation, drawing
techniques and peer consultation. Contests and Prizes!
Art Club/ Open Studio –
Students will have the opportunity to receive extra help, work
on class projects or to create new pieces under the tutelage of
our art department.
IMAGESThe art works of 20 students is displayed at this Board wide
Student Art Exhibit held at The Mississauga Civic Centre, these
artists are eligible to receive awards of distinction.
Artsapalooza –
This year end arts celebration honours the dedication and
creativity of our many talented arts students. A great
opportunity for those interested in the arts.
Artsfest –
A showcase of students’ talents that hosts classes in the library
over a 2 day period in May.
The BeholdersAn Art club that allows students to showcase their work and
complete projects for the school and greater community.
Brick House Band“This group has evolved over the past few years to fill the role
of ROCK at St Joes, whether it is for Mr. Kelleher’s original
musicals, school assemblies or Board-Wide events such as the
Expressions Drama Festival. This talented and adaptable group
is kind of like that band on Glee - they may not get a lot of
camera time, but you would miss them if everything
was performed with a Karaoke track!”
Jazz Band“A blazing horn section and a smokin’ rhythm section ignite with
soulful lead vocals as the group annually closes both the Fall
Christmas concert and the Spring Concert held every semester at
the Living Arts Centre with their mix of ’70s RnB and modern
grooves! In recent years the group has also been featured on
Grade 9 Info Night, Artsfest and any other event requiring energy
and soul!”
Marching Band“Who says you can’t dance to the beat of your own drummer…or
even a drum line?! When the marching band performs, they are
hard to miss whether it’s their snazzy uniforms or boisterous
interpretations of everything from Football marches to Lady
Gaga! In addition to bringing the house down at the Living Arts
Centre twice a year, the Marching band has also been featured as
part of the annual Terry Fox Day festivities, and important
football games!”
Music Ministry Choir“The voices for all occasions, the membership of the choir shifts
between vocal class, as well as others in the school community
who wish to sing. Traditionally, Music Ministry covers all of the
music for the school’s Masses and Liturgies, but in recent years,
their soaring voices, and even acting skills have been front and
centre in a number of Dramatic productions from 2010’s “Beast”
and 2011’s “Detention Rhapsody.”
Drama ClubThe Drama Club is open to all students who show a passion for
drama and performance. These dedicated individuals not only
perform for the school in events such as Remembrance Day and
the Grade 8 Tours. They are also responsible for organizing
ticket and concession sales at dramatic performances throughout
the school year.
Night of Original WorksThe Night of Original Works, or NOW, is a one night festival of
original One-Act plays, written, directed and starring senior
drama students. Though all the actors and plays are extremely
creative, only one can move on to represent our school at the
Sears Ontario Drama Festival.
Sears Ontario Drama Festival –
The SODF is a provincial high school festival, currently in its
65th year. Students compete within districts, performing either
published or original One-Act plays. For the past 2 years St.
Joseph has made it to the Regional Finals.
ExpressionsA DPCDSB event where drama students showcase their dramatic
talents at the Living Arts Centre. This year's group was entitled
"Beyond Belief" and what they accomplished was beyond what
anyone truly could believe.
Mock Bail Team –
Open to grade 11 Law Students who wish to participate in the
Peel Region Mock Bail Tournament. Students meet regularly to
learn the roles of Crown Attorney, Defence Attorney, Accused,
and Witnesses in order to prepare for the mock bail hearing.
Students will present before real Justices of the Peace during the
competition.
Table Tennis Club –You got game? Come and test your skills
against the best at St. Joe’s. St. Joe’s Ping Pong; now a
ROPSSAA Sport. Beginner’s welcome!
Mock Trial Teams –
Open to grade 11 and 12 Law Students who wish to participate in
the Peel Region Mock Trial Tournament. The Ontario Bar
Association creates a new Mock Trail case for each year’s
competition. Students meet regularly to learn the roles of Crown
Attorney, Defence Attorney, Accused, and Witnesses in order to
prepare for the trail they will present before real Justices of the
Peace during the competition.
SOMA – Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly –
Represent a country in the annual mock United Nations
Assembly. Learn strategic debate, presentation and organization
skills.
Culture Shock –
Experience cultures from around the world with this celebration
of multiculturalism. Learn about food, dress and performances
from around the world all under one roof!
Fantasy Hockey Pool Club –Have you ever dreamed of
managing your own hockey team? Come and compete against
others aspiring to be the best General Manager around. Who
knows? Maybe the Leafs will come knocking?
Fashion Show - Choose a theme and use local stores as sponsors
for a show. Also, a charity is chosen and a portion of the money
raised is given to that charity.
Robotics Club –
Design and build robots to enter for competition. All are
welcome.
School Musical –
Every other year the school hosts a musical performance. This
performance showcases students’ acting and singing talents.
Performances also take place at St. Joe’s, in elementary schools,
and in the local community.
School Reach Team –Come out and test your trivia and subject
knowledge against some of the best in Dufferin-Peel.
Latin Club –
Students celebrate the diversity that St. Joseph S. S. is proud to
have. Learn Latin dances such as the Meringue, Salsa, Bachata
and Cumbia. Perform at the school and within the community.
All students are welcome, no matter the skill level.
Ski and Snowboard Club –
“Winter blahs got you down?” Come join us on the slopes for
winter fun, fun, fun!!! This club is open to all ski and snowboard
enthusiasts as well as to those willing to learn!!
Badminton Club –
Competitive and non-competitive play! For all grade levels and
abilities!
Video Game Club –Like to compete on-screen? Come and be a
part of St. Joe’s video game elite.
White Pine Reading Club –
Come join the largest recreational reading program in Canada!
The White Pine Awards Reading Program is the high school level
branch of the Forest of Reading Program. The White Pine Award
reading program offers high school-aged teens at all grade levels
the opportunity to read the best of Canada’s recent young adult
fiction titles. Based on student voting across the province, the
most popular book is selected and the author is honored with the
White Pine Award.
Writers Unblocked - Allows students to establish a deeper
appreciation for writing and express their passion for various
literary works. Through their writing, students will be given an
opportunity to not only contribute as young aspiring writers to
Canadian literature but also work as agents of social change
within their community.
Chess Club –
A semester-long tournament with lots of prizes. All levels of
players are welcome. You must be able to obey the first rule of
the chess club: “We don’t talk about the chess club!”
JUMP – Jaguars Understanding Multicultural Perspective
New to Canada? Join this student led committee as they explore
what it means to be a Canadian High School student. Participate
in excursions to the ROM, CN Tower, and Harbourfront.
Navigate the transit system and explore downtown Toronto, Port
Credit and Streetsville.
Book Club –
If you love to read and make new friends this club is for you! The
focus is on Canadian Lit. and modern fiction. There are great
door prizes at each meeting. The club sponsors an award for the
Grade 12 student with the highest mark in English.
Investor’s Club –Think you got what it takes? Come and try
your hand in the investment market and compete with other
students across the country.
