States of Matter
Students need to be able to sort objects based on the materials
from which they are made (paper, wood, metal)
Students need to be able to name the three states of matter –
solid, liquid and gas.
Students need to be able to explain how water can change from
one state of matter to another by adding or taking away heat.
Sound and Light
Students need to be able to explain that vibrations cause
sound.
Students need to be able to explain that pitch is how low or how
high the sound is. Pitch can be changed. To produce a low
pitch, the string needs to be long, thick OR loose. To produce a
high pitch, the string needs to be short, thin OR tight.
Students need to be able to explain that light travels in a
straight line.
Students need to be able to explain & draw the movement of
light when it strikes a mirror. Reflection
Students need to be able to explain & draw the movement of
light when it strikes a lens. Refraction
Students need to be able to explain & draw the movement of
light when it strikes a dark object. Absorption
