Procedures for Biology:
Class starts: When entering the classroom each student should go to their seat and start the opening assignment
on the board or projector. Take care of going to the bathroom and getting all materials during this five minute
passing time.
No Materials: You should bring all materials needed for class each day. But if you need supplies: If a writing
utensil is needed, check the black container on my desk or with a classmate. If paper is needed, borrow some
from a classmate or the paper from my desk. If textbook is needed, checkout an extra copy from the teacher.
The textbook will need to be returned at the end of the period.
Homework Help: If you need help on your homework, raise your hand and I will come to you or have you
come to the desk. Before I will help, you will need to have your notes or the book turned to what page you are
looking for the answer.
Collecting Homework: Keep your work on your desk face down when completed. Homework will be turned
into the basket at the end of the class as you exit the room or I will collect it myself. If it is sent home then it
will be due at the beginning of the next day’s class unless there were different arrangements made.
Missing Homework: If you do not bring your homework you will not be allowed to go get it out of your locker.
You can bring it during the next 5 minute break or by the end of the day. You will have points deducted for the
work being late.
Turning in late work: Please turn in all late work to the appropriate basket.
Free Time after Homework: If possible bring books or other homework. It needs to be quiet until all students
are done with their work. There is to be no talking until all work is handed in.
Make-up or Missing work: Any missed work will be on the counter top behind the podium. There will be a
tray labeled for each class period. If you do not see the work, then ask me for the work. Homework grades will
be entered as a 0 until the work is turned in. The same goes for a test.
Test Taking: All students will need a pencil for each test. When completed with the test, turn the test face down
on the desk. The test will be collected when all test are completed.
Test Retakes: When a test is failed, a copy will be placed in the test box in the teacher’s lounge. You can either
retake the test before school in my room, detention, or extended day. Arrangements can be made to take in
Saturday School as well. You have a week to take the retake.
Sharpen Pencil: Take care of this before class starts. If class has started please raise your hand to go to the
pencil sharpener.
Trash: Students should not get out of their seat to throw trash away during class time. Please wait until class is
over before you throw it away.
Bathroom: Students need to ask permission to go to the bathroom. You will need to sign out on the sheet. If
bathroom privilege is abused then permission will not be granted.
Grades: Please do not ask during class time about your grades or missing work. This should be done at the very
end of class. You can also check your grades on-line.
Teacher leaves the room: All students should remain in their seat. Anything that needs to be done can wait
until teacher returns.
Announcements on Intercom: When the intercom comes on all students should get quiet and remain quiet
until the announcement is over.
Phone Calls: When there is a phone call there should be silence until the phone call is finished.
Phone Usage for students- there will not be any phone calls made on my phone. This needs to be taken care of
during 5 minute breaks, enrichment, lunch, and coke break.
Visitors: When a visitor comes into the classroom whether it be a student or an adult there should be silence out
of respect for the visitor.
Class Dismissal: The bell does not dismiss you, I dismiss you. When the bell rings all students should be in
their seats for last minute instructions and dismissal.
Fire Alarm/Earthquake/Severe Weather: Students should remain quiet during the drills. If going in the
hallway is required students shall remain quiet and move in a quick but organized matter.
Group Work: I will assign the groups for each assignment. Groups will be random and you will work with
each student in the class at one time or another. Group size will depend on the activity that is being completed.
Each person in the group will be responsible for a job during the activity. Jobs may include: gathering materials,
leading procedures, filling in data tables, graphs, answering wrap-up questions, and other jobs that a particular
lab may have.
Presentations: All students will remain quiet when another student is giving an oral presentation.
