II. Class notes - Model of the atom A. Vocabulary 1. Proton - Part that has a Positive charge (+). Found or located in the nucleus (center). 2. Neutron - Part that has no charge (neutral or n). Located in the nucleus with the proton. 3. Electron - Part that has Negative charge (-). Moves around the nucleus in Energy Levels. 4. Nucleus Center of an atom that contains the Proton and Neutron. B. Facts to know 1. Matter is anything that has weight and takes up space. 2. The atom is the smallest whole part of matter. 3. Most of the atom’s weight (mass) is found in the nucleus. 4. The whole atom has no charge (neutral). 5. The whole nucleus has a positive charge (plus). 6. Atoms are so small that 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them can be found in a drop of water. (That’s 6 sextillion)
