II. Class notes - Model of the atom
A. Vocabulary
1. Proton - Part that has a Positive charge (+). Found
or located in the nucleus (center).
2. Neutron - Part that has no charge
(neutral or n). Located in the nucleus with
the proton.
3. Electron - Part that has Negative charge (-).
Moves around the nucleus in Energy Levels.
4. Nucleus Center of an atom that
contains the Proton and Neutron.
B. Facts to know
1. Matter is anything that has weight and takes up
space.
2. The atom is the smallest whole part of
matter.
3. Most of the atom’s weight (mass) is found in the
nucleus.
4. The whole atom has no charge (neutral).
5. The whole nucleus has a positive charge (plus).
6. Atoms are so small that
6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them can be
found in a drop of water. (That’s 6 sextillion)
