Weekly News
Math: We are solving problems using coins and
dollars and will learn how to read and tell time on
analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5
minutes.
Please practice basic math facts for about 1-2
minutes per night.
Reading: Book Series: Students are identifying
literary devices used by authors that help make
the stories come alive! Ask them for examples of
dialogue, hyperboles, similes, metaphors, idioms,
personification and onomatopoeia.
Writing: Poetry Unit: Students will be looking at
life with a poet’s eyes and seeing ordinary things
in new ways. Last week we enjoyed writing
limericks. This week we will write spring haikus.
Read Aloud/ Social Studies: The Giraffe Club
focuses on persons from our history who have
made important contributions to our world. This is
a great extension of the biographies we have
been reading during read-aloud! We will discuss
what qualities make a person a leader and
contributions they have made.
We have lots of runny noses in second
grade! Tissue boxes would be greatly
appreciated!!!
