Weekly News Math: We are solving problems using coins and dollars and will learn how to read and tell time on analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minutes. Please practice basic math facts for about 1-2 minutes per night. Reading: Book Series: Students are identifying literary devices used by authors that help make the stories come alive! Ask them for examples of dialogue, hyperboles, similes, metaphors, idioms, personification and onomatopoeia. Writing: Poetry Unit: Students will be looking at life with a poet’s eyes and seeing ordinary things in new ways. Last week we enjoyed writing limericks. This week we will write spring haikus. Read Aloud/ Social Studies: The Giraffe Club focuses on persons from our history who have made important contributions to our world. This is a great extension of the biographies we have been reading during read-aloud! We will discuss what qualities make a person a leader and contributions they have made. We have lots of runny noses in second grade! Tissue boxes would be greatly appreciated!!!
