Introduction to Metalwork and Jewelry How to: Rivet So, you’re ready to rivet your project. Follow these steps: You need at least two different pieces of metal to rivet together. Make sure they are both cut out, sanded, and filed. Stop before you polish. Mark the areas that you want to rivet with a small dot. You can use rivets as accents, so think about how many you want to include in your design. Use the punch to punch your holes. The white side is the hole punch. Punch all holes at once. Choose the longer rivets, and place the pieces together. Using that black side of the punch, place project in punch, lining up top of rivet with press. Turn the press until the rivet is set Complete all rivets. Sand if needed (don’t sand too much, you’ll sand off the rivet), and polish.
