Gwynedd Square Home and School Association Tuesday, May 29th, Meeting Minuites 1. Called to Order by President Nicole Daly, she welcomed all who were present. A. April meeting minutes were approved by Dave Weber and Second by SuEllen Marett. B. Thanks and Appreciation from Nicole Daly, see the end of the minutes for this. 2. Principal’s Report – Mrs. Justice A. PM Kindergarten had a successful letter day parade. B. Here is a list of upcoming dates for the end of the year: - 5.31 - 10am AM Kindergarten letter day parade - 6.1 - School Picnic is a beach theme with popcorn and snow cones. - 6.4 - Kindergarten open house will be grouped with Gwyn-Nor and North Wales, with Gwyn-Nor hosting. Gwyn Sq will still be geared for parents to come during timeslots on the first day of school. - 6.8 - PA day for 4th grade. - 6.8 - 6th grade party off sight with a bus to Mermaid Lake. - 6.12 - PM Kindergarten last day. - 6.13 - Last day of school with parties, this is a half day. C. Remember to sign up for E-alerts. This will be the main source of communication next year. D. Mrs Mattes came to share from the teachers update. - Thank you to H&S for all their support and generosity from our staff. - Thank you to Mrs Justice for her time and dedication with our H&S and her sharing of information with our staff. She has only ever missed on meeting, supports all of our events and promotes a school spirit of support. - Grade level highlights are: -K- Chase Norman Cooper has arrived! Children had a great time preparing for the letter day parade and will have another parade at 10 am Thursday. They will soon be working on their lady bug theme. -1- Miss Gramlich returned today! First grade is excited about getting ready for Authors Tea Time. The Teas will be taking place this week and next week. -2- We are finishing our unit on changes in science and we are now working on Soc. Studies unit Our Country Today...dealing with government...they are looking forward to our school picnic on Friday. -3- working on research reports which will also be supported with the creation of a power point. They had a great time at the DeVinci Center and the making of slime was a big hit. -4- PA DAY will take place on June 8th and the teachers would like to extend a thank you to all the parents that volunteered o support this day. Harrisburg was wonderful and the follow up visit from Rep. Harper on May 16th was exceptional. -5- They will be going to Peter Wentz Farmstead tomorrow to learn more about the colonial life and its challenges. -6- they had a pleasant and informative visit to Penndale today and will present their Wax Museum on June 11th. -Mrs Marcarelli would like a reminder shared with you... -3rd grade dentals will be due on Oct 15, 2012 -6th grade Physicals due Oct 15, 2012 -In need of sweat pants and GS T-shirts -Mrs Buzzard would like to remind us of the Go for the Gold, summer book challenge, how many 15 minute slots can you fill? Information will be sent in BPW before the end of the school year. Information will be posted on the website. 3. Treasurer’s Report – Kim Diehl - See website 4. Coordinating Council update - Sherri Helt - Here are her notes from the last two meetings: - April - @ York Ave: York Ave. does a Culture Night that includes - food, passports that gets "stamped" at each country, crafts and performers. They do a St. Patrick's Day breakfast @ Applebee's as a fundraiser. Also doing a Hoop-Athon this Year Business part: Coordinating Councils' sales tax exemption now good until 2016 Nominees for CC Board were announced May - @ AM Kulp: Guest speaker was Josie Chernock, chair of the Alternative Revenue Committee. Since forming in late December the committee is looking into several different avenues. Some of the alternative revenue options being presented to the NP school board and parents are: Advertising in schools - Hallways, inside buses. Parents were given the opportunity to give input on this through an online questionnaire and of those that participated, majority were in favor. Policy is now being written up and needs to be approved by the school board (slow process). Showed examples of advertising at Pennsbury School District. So far that school has received $400,000. Sponsorships- At stadiums, fields, etc. Donations- ex. alumni development Grant Development Trademark Licensing User fees - facilities and activities Intellectual property - staff generated concepts Advance concepts - student radio, on site commercial center, etc. **They are strongly encouraging parents to get involve by attending meetings, voicing opinions, making comments. The budget gap will be getting wider as the years progress. In 2016-17 the budget gap will be an est. $20 mil. Business part: Many school concerned with the effects of sharing teachers - Art/Music. Currently, no new teacher being hired for retiring music teacher at Gwynedd Square. School supplies for Elementary will be determined by each school building, per grade. Coming home in report card. Marianne Cleary, director of transportation, left NP and Tom Schneider is the interim director. Bus stops are being consolidated. Currently Bridal Path is losing 40 bus stops, ING - 10 stops Elections for the CC 12/13 board were held as well 5. President’s Report – Nicole Daly A. The fundraising plan for 2012/2013 school year was reviewed. We are hoping to limit and consolidate fund raisers. The Exercise for Education went well and there are still checks coming in. The plan was put to vote and passed. B. The budget for 2012/2013 school year was reviewed. The goal for H&S events is to fully fund each event so no money need come out of the parents pocket. The budget was put to vote and passed. - Note to 6th grade parents, if your child has ever had artwork framed and hung in the hallway, you may take that artwork when your child leaves to move on to 7th grade. As per the by laws Aritical VIII, Section 3, Letter B: If only one nominee is present for an office, the Recording Secretary shall be instructed to cast a unanimous vote for the nominee. D. The board is looking into withdrawing from our Coordinating Council membership . We will look to see what is involved with the IRS to make the change. If we were to leave CC it would give us the opportunity to participate in the RACE for Education. Participation in the R for E has the potential to be the only fund raiser that we would need to do as a school. E. End of the Year School Wide Picnic – Friday, June 1st. Snow cones and Popcorn provided by H&S. Volunteers slots are filled. Thanks to all! F. Meeting changes for next year. We are looking at the first half of the month for meetings. Still Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm. Meetings in Sept/Nov/Jan/March/April and May only. G. On the previous agenda for tonight, there was mention of some potential changes to the by laws for H&S. Due to multiple questions regarding the changes, the subject was pulled from the agenda and will be discussed at a future H&S meeting. 6. The meeting was adjourned – see you next year!!!
