Students will learn the basics of Photography. They will be introduced to Photoshop and Illustrator, the industry standard in digital graphic software. The learning material format for this course will be a combination of demonstration lectures and tutorials. Students will have a chance to demonstrate the skills they have learned through a final project. Learning outcomes for this course are grouped under the curriculum organizers: Personal Management, Computer Literacy, Photography Process and Ethics. BAA Digital Media Development and Photography 10/11 Framework 1 Rationale: This course has been developed to support and encourage the growing interest in photography by our student body. The intent of this course is to offer students an introduction to computer graphical arts and help them determine if it is a possible career path for them or an interest worth pursuing. This course allows students to combine creativitive and artistic skills, with a camera, and build computer literacy skills. Topics of study include the history of photography, the photography process, photography principles and digital imaging terminology. History of photography will define what photography is; introduce the pioneers of photography and the evolution of digital photography. The photography process will highlight the key areas required to create and develop a photograph from start to finish. Students will finish the unit by creating a simple photography booklet which will highlight all the topics covered in this unit. Curriculum Organizer - Personal Management It is expected the students will: maintain a weekly journal to help document their progress and monitor their time management complete a Photographic Booklet and Power Point presentation of newly learned materials Curriculum Organizer – ethics It is expected the students will: apply the Photographers Code of Ethics when taking pictures BAA Digital Media Development and Photography 10/11 Framework 3 Unit 2: Software Interface Basics Time: 6 hours Students will be introduced to Photoshop, Illustrator and Power Point software. This unit is designed to introduce students to proper file management and graphic interface of the software. Topics of interest for file management include: creating new project directories, and learning file types and formats. Topics of interest for Photoshop include: identifying the main components of the graphic interface, creating, manipulating and viewing pictures. The learning material format for this unit will be a combination of demonstration lectures and individual based tutorials. The framing component will look at the proper set-up of their shots. The rule of thirds component will look at different photos which use the rule and those that break the rule. Picture mood and picture identification will look at the purpose of taking the photo, understanding how photos create a mood, and how shot identification is used in presenting photographs. Students will also be introduced to the digital camera and all of its automatic and manual settings. They will learn how they can control light, focus, f stop, aperture, and film speed setting. The learning material format for this unit will be a combination of demonstration lectures and individual based tutorials. This project will encompass all of the photographic techniques presented in the course either through instructional demonstrations or individual based tutorials. Students will be required to create a photograph scheduling sheet for the project. This sheet must outline the breakdown of the project into specific components.
