POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: International Trade Advisor Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional D JOB SUMMARY: Plan and coordinate the development of the International Trade Assistance Program. Provide advising and training services to meet the needs of small businesses in the community served by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). YEARLY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PERCENT OF TIME 1. Provide advising services regarding international trade to small businesses and 45% exporters in identifying potential export markets, SBA/EXIMBANK loan assistance, export regulations and NAICS codes. Administer on-line advising inquiries and manage a caseload of clients set by the Regional Office. 2. Plan and coordinate the development of the International Trade Assistance Program. Act as liaison for the SBDC with the UTSA International Trade Center on program related initiatives. 15% 3. Initiate and maintain client case records including documentation required by the SBDC grant program; document progress of client cases/projects electronically; monitor support staff assisting on case projects and ensure accuracy and compliance of client information; prepare and submit timely periodic performance reports to center director. 15% 4. Coordinate the development of international trade resources, directories, guides and library material; perform outreach activities and conduct training sessions on export/import topics. 5% 5. Work closely with community and trade organizations in international trade related initiatives; develop work relations with Mexico SBDCs, foreign government entities, and foreign trade organizations. Participate in trade missions and export development events. 5% 6. Contribute to the development of news articles, success stories, and content on international trade information for the SBDC Website and the on-line newsletter. 5% 7. Maintain and implement operational guidelines of the SBDC program and adheres to EPCC policies and procedures; conduct self-assessment of the training programs in preparation for SBA on-site reviews; attend staff meetings and SBDC regional meetings. 5% 8. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s degree in a related field. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience. CERTIFICATE/LICENSURE: Must acquire and maintain business advisor certificate required by the SBDC Regional Office and work toward and maintain NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional Certificate. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish; good counseling skills; ability to manage, coordinate, and prioritize multiple tasks; strong oral and written communication skills; skillful in making presentations and public speaking; proficiency in Microsoft Office® including Word, EXCEL, ACCESS, PowerPoint, Outlook Express (email), and Internet Explorer; knowledge of international regulations and documentation; knowledge of SBA and EXIMBANK export loan programs and international resources; excellent writing skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
