POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLS STATUS: Workforce Literacy Coordinator Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional C JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Workplace Literacy Programs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 1. Coordinate the day-to-day operations for the Workplace Literacy Programs. Schedule courses and manages student enrollment. Develop program calendar according to the needs of the sponsoring organizations. Research, compile, prepare, and submit program reports. Oversee intake and assessment of students in the program. 25% 2. Coordinate and oversee on and off-campus programs, including special projects. Meet with on and off-campus representatives to design specialized courses including preparation of budget and schedules, hiring and credentialing of faculty. 25% 3. Assist the Workplace Literacy Manager with discipline matters and student issues. Assume responsibilities of manager during manager’s absence. 15% 4. Schedule and monitor part-time faculty. Monitor the WECM and SACS requirements. Ensure compliance with INS student visa requirements for participants at business and industry sites. Design and conduct technology professional development for faculty and staff. Participate in the workplace literacy textbook selection committee in collaboration with faculty. 15% 5. Coordinate, recommend, and approve expenditures. Participates in the development of departmental budgets. 10% 6. Research, prepare, and submit grants for additional programming. 10% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Workplace Literacy Programs SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of staff assigned ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Effective: 7/1/04 EXPERIENCE: Five (5) Years related. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Ability to work effectively with a diverse population having sensitivity to cultural issues; leadership and teambuilding skills; ability to communicate effectively both oral and written; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and above average knowledge of technology application in and out of the classroom. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software, e.g. MSWord, Excel and Access, and integrated administrative information systems. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, guidance, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
