POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: CEP Student Assistant III Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for facilitating tutorial processes and procedures in the Literacy Education Action for the Deaf Program. Processes and procedures include providing orientation to tutors, resolving tutor-student problems, scheduling tutorial hours, identifying instructional sites and making schedules, ensuring tutors’ delivery of services and completion of Literacy Center’s assessment tools. Other functions include assisting students with referrals, problems and various orientation and instructional questions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 50% 1. Facilitates all tutorial processes and procedures in the Literacy Center which includes providing orientation to tutors, resolving tutor-student problems, scheduling tutorial hours and instructional sites and ensuring tutors’ delivery of services and completion of Literacy Assessment System. 2. Assist students with special problems and makes referrals. 10% 3. Handle pre-testing, pre-orienting, scheduling of students for ATB and new student orientation at off-campus sites. 10% 4. Advise Coordinator regarding appropriateness and content of instructional materials. 10% 5. Assess student needs and reports status to Coordinator. 10% 6. Conduct student follow-ups for “no shows”. 5% 7. Conduct recruitment. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: direct supervision as a first-line supervisor to staff assigned. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Page 1 of 2 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; communicate effectively both oral and written; supervisory skills; and ability to manage multiple project simultaneously. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
