Health and Safety
The personal safety and health of each employee and student of the North Penn School District, is
of primary importance. The prevention of occupational induced injuries and illnesses is of such
consequence that it will be given precedence whenever necessary. To the greatest degree
possible, the administration will provide all mechanical and physical accommodations required for
personal safety and health, in keeping with the highest standards.
The North Penn School District will maintain a safety and health program conforming to the best
practices of public school entities. To ensure a successful program, both supervisors and
employees must embody the proper attitudes toward injury and illness prevention. The program
requires cooperation in all safety and health matters, not only between employee and supervisor,
but also among all employees. Only through such a cooperative effort can a safety record in the
best interest of all be established and maintained.
Our objective is a safety and health program that will reduce the number of disabling injuries and
illnesses to minimum, not merely in keeping with, but surpassing the best experience of other
school entities. Our goal is to eliminate all accidents and injuries. Our safety and health program
includes:
1. A School District Safety Committee that shall oversee the implementation of the Safety &
Health Policy, and make recommendations concerning safety-related concerns.
2. Providing mechanical and physical safeguards to the maximum extent possible.
3. Conducting a program of safety and health inspections to find and eliminate unsafe working
conditions or practices, to control health hazards, and to comply fully with the safety and
health standards for every job or position.
4. Training for all employees in good safety and health practices.
5. Providing necessary personal protective equipment and instructions for its use.
6. Developing and enforcing safety and health rules, and requiring that employees cooperate
with these rules as a condition of their employment.
7. Investigating, promptly and thoroughly, every accident to find out what caused it and to
correct the problem so that it will not happen again.
8. Establishing a system of recognition and awards for outstanding safety performance.
We recognize that the responsibilities for safety and health are shared:
•
As employer we accept the responsibility for leadership of the safety and health program
and for its effectiveness and improvement.
