Obsolete Books
Textbooks, supplementary, and library books may be declared obsolete upon the recommendation of
the building principal with the approval of the assistant superintendent. (Textbooks cannot be declared
obsolete within five years of the school board adoption date.)
Such obsolete books, if still in usable condition, may be donated to an educational or charitable
organization at no cost. Otherwise, obsolete books may be disposed of by the business office.
All disposed books must be removed from the inventories.
Obsolete and Surplus Supplies and Equipment
When instructional supplies and equipment are no longer useful, they may be declared obsolete or
surplus by the building principal with the approval of the assistant superintendent. Noninstructional
supplies and equipment also may be declared obsolete or surplus by the principal with the approval of
the director of business administration.
A descriptive list of surplus items shall be circulated to all building principals to determine if a use for
the items can be found elsewhere in the district.
Any unwanted surplus items and all obsolete items shall be turned over to the business office for
disposal. Any such items which have sale value will be offered for sale through the solicitation of
quotations from interested persons.
Any items which are not salable may be disposed of to educational or charitable organizations, if
possible, or otherwise disposed of as deemed appropriate by the director of business affairs.
All supplies and equipment thus disposed of must be removed from the inventories.
