NORTH PENN SCHOOL DISTRICT School Board Policy 3710(a) BUSINESS AND NONINSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS Income Disposal of Books Supplies and Equipment Obsolete Books, Supplies, and Equipment Obsolete Books Textbooks, supplementary, and library books may be declared obsolete upon the recommendation of the building principal with the approval of the assistant superintendent. (Textbooks cannot be declared obsolete within five years of the school board adoption date.) Such obsolete books, if still in usable condition, may be donated to an educational or charitable organization at no cost. Otherwise, obsolete books may be disposed of by the business office. All disposed books must be removed from the inventories. Obsolete and Surplus Supplies and Equipment When instructional supplies and equipment are no longer useful, they may be declared obsolete or surplus by the building principal with the approval of the assistant superintendent. Noninstructional supplies and equipment also may be declared obsolete or surplus by the principal with the approval of the director of business administration. A descriptive list of surplus items shall be circulated to all building principals to determine if a use for the items can be found elsewhere in the district. Any unwanted surplus items and all obsolete items shall be turned over to the business office for disposal. Any such items which have sale value will be offered for sale through the solicitation of quotations from interested persons. Any items which are not salable may be disposed of to educational or charitable organizations, if possible, or otherwise disposed of as deemed appropriate by the director of business affairs.
