T
he 2015-16 school year is off to a fantastic start at Kibler Elementary! As your new
principal, I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know our 430 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. As a staff we believe in the greatness inside each individual. Our goal is to develop a strong academic and social foundation for every student
so they are equipped to be contributing citizens in a global market place.
Here at Kibler we value:
A caring and productive learning environment: Our slogan is “the school with heart.”
While visiting Kibler you will see that slogan in action. Throughout the school our students demonstrate our school commitments: Show Respect, Solve Problems, and Make
Good Choices. The Kibler community at large: staff, families, and PTA all work together
to provide a memorable and meaningful learning experience where our students
thrive.

Washington students; demographic
information at the state, district and
building level; and an easy-to-use analysis tool for comparisons of schools and
districts based on the user’s selected
criteria. To view more information about

Research-based best practices in instruction: Currently Kibler staff are implementing
and refining balanced literacy instruction: whole group instruction, small group/guided
reading instruction, independent reading with “just right” books, one-on-one instruction/conferring, and interactive read aloud. Last year the entire Enumclaw School District began using the Making Meaning Curriculum to support whole group reading instruction. This year we are digging deeper into research-based comprehension strategies. We have new curriculum in the area of writing as well: The Units of Study for
Teaching Writing by Lucy Calkins and colleagues at Columbia University’s Teacher’s
College. Both new curriculums are aligned to the state Common Core Standards. Kibler
staff was fortunate to have multi-week training in GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition
Design) last year. GLAD strategies support our work in all content areas.
Meeting individual student needs: Kibler’s dedicated teaching staff focuses on meeting
individual student needs by looking at student data, meeting with individuals regularly,
and providing a rich menu of supports. Kibler Elementary has many additional programs to meet students’ needs: Federal Title 1 and LAP Reading Intervention Grants,
Federal Special Education Funding, Speech and Language Program, Physical Education,
Music Education, Social-Emotional Education, and ELL (English Language Learning). Our supportive paraeducators assist classroom teachers daily to meet individual
student needs in a variety of settings.
Collaboration: The Kibler community values a collaborative learning environment for
students, staff, and families. We believe the more hands supporting our students the
better. We appreciate partnering with our families, community, and PTA to create a rich
environment, both academically and socially, for our students. As a staff, we value our
Professional Learning Community time on Fridays. On these afternoons, we collaborate
on how to best implement research-based teaching practices, our new curriculum, and
use data to drive our instructional decisions.
Kids are the heart of our work. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our
school. We look forward to working with you to ensure our kids achieve at high levels.
With Great Kibler Pride,
