Success Stories
May is a month of autumn in the
Southern Hemisphere. In both common
Western calendrical systems, no other
month begins on the same day of the
week as May. May and June are the only
two months that have this trait.
For the June 13, 2011 Board of Education Meeting
Recognition of Student/School Success
School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) extends congratulations
to the following students/groups for these outstanding examples of
success for May:
Columbia Elementary
Student-Led Conferences
Columbia Elementary students had the opportunity to share their learning with their
parents at the recently held student-led conferences. It was wonderful to see how
students were able to demonstrate their growth to their parents and other family
members. Columbia’s school inquiry focus is student self-assessment, and it is
exciting to see how the students have embraced this important step in their learning.
Hearts at School Event
At the beginning of May, students at Columbia Elementary enjoyed a morning of
moving from station to station, learning about and participating in a variety of healthy
activities. With the participation of community partners and volunteers, students learned
skills in yoga, skipping, hopscotch, 'boot camp', juggling, and sun safety.
Kaleden Elementary
Success Stories

the concession and to all the parents who attended as well as helped out at this
exciting event.
Jake Evans – Hip Hop May away
During the month of May the heavy bass and
enthusiastic dancers could be heard
throughout the school. Jake Evans, a
local hip hop teacher did six sessions of
dance over three weeks with Kaleden
students. Jake has a great rapport with kids
and really is great to work with. The students
(and teachers) learned a lot about dance.
