quarterly report cards. Access the authorization form on our website
and send it in with your student when they come through maze in
August. If you have already created your account the link to parent

Schedule Change Procedures
Before school begins:
Student schedules will be distributed during schedule pickup days in August. Students must carefully
check their schedules for errors, missing classes, missing class periods, course misplacement or other
obvious problems. Seniors should refer to their credit check form to insure that all remaining
graduation requirements are currently scheduled.
If a schedule problem exists, the student must have his/her schedule reviewed by a building administrator prior to leaving the school on schedule pickup day. The administrator will determine if the student needs to immediately contact a counselor. On schedule pickup days we will only do schedule
changes for the following reasons: missing periods, course misplacement or seniors missing classes
required for graduation, or other problems deemed critical by administrator approval.
After the semester begins:
Students must attend their assigned classes for the first three days of the semester. A student who
thinks he/she is misplaced in a class should notify the teacher immediately. The teacher will contact
the student’s counselor.
Counselors will register new students, resolve schedule conflicts, errors and misplacements during the
first two days of the semester. No student initiated schedule requests will take place during class time
on these three days.
Student initiated schedule change request forms may be picked up in the Counseling Center before or
after school and during class breaks beginning the first day of the semester. No schedule changes will
be made without parent signature/approval. Schedule changes will be made after school only from
2:45 to 4:15 p.m. according to the following schedule.

CENTRAL KITSAP HIGH SCHOOL
Electronic and Communication Devices Policy
Central Kitsap High School
Use of Cell Phones or Other Electronic Devices
Research shows that student usage of E-Devices promotes critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and other essential life skills in a highly competitive and global society. To that end, electronic devices have become part of the educational process. Electronic devices enhance the learning experience
providing access and tools for all students. Most students and parents support their appropriate use in a
school setting. As an innovative school, Central Kitsap High School encourages the appropriate use of
electronic devices in the classroom or other school settings. The personal use of the electronic devices
must not endanger persons or property, disrupt the educational process, or violate the publicized policy
of Central Kitsap High School and the Central Kitsap School District. The behavior of the student using the device is addressed rather than the possession of the device.
Classroom Use
Appropriate use of electronic devices and systems enrich the teaching and learning process by permitting access to the external references and learning tools including on-line textbooks, interpretations and
simulations, personal response systems, and other resources thereby connecting the classroom to the
world. Use of electronic devices in inextricably linked to greater success in the acquisition of skills and
competencies and prepares students for post-secondary education, the workplace and life.
Classroom use of electronic devices is subject to regulation by the teacher and must only be used for instructional purposes aligned with curricular objectives and CKSD policies.
If electronic devices are utilized by the instructor as part of a planned instructional design, cooperative
grouping will ensures ALL STUDENTS have access to the electronic device.
Electronic Policy
The possession and use of electronic devices (E-Devices) is a privileged part of the educational experience. The school may revoke the privilege of possessing or using E-Devices at any time at its
sole discretion. E-Devices include devices used to communicate, receive, send, store, record or listen to
voice, text, digital, audio, video, photo, electronic or internet/cyberspace data, images and/or information which shall include but not be limited to cellular phones/smartphones, iPods, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), MP3 Players, portable music players, tablets, laptops, CD players, game players, cameras, video cameras, GPS, etc. Central Kitsap School District and Central Kitsap High School are
not responsible for lost, damaged, stolen E-Device, programs or contents.
1. E-Device users must follow all guidelines outlined in the following:
CKHS Network Account, Internet, and Gaggle e-Mail Use Agreement
CKSD Bring Your Own Device Guidelines
2. E-Devices MAY BE USED …
D during non-instructional times – before school during passing time, during the student’s lunchtime, or
after school.
D in the classroom for academic purposes at the discretion of the teacher. Teachers are encouraged to
develop lessons utilizing technology.
D When a device is authorized for use in the classroom by the instructor students WILL NOT:
o Answer incoming SMS (text) message or phone call.
o Be on any social media site (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, etc.)
o Access or play any game or access any entertainment site on their device.
o Access or use any application (app) on their device unless expressly instructed to by the instructor.

o
Take or show any picture or video that the instructor has not asked for or asked to be taken or shown.
Upload any picture or video taken in class to any social media or website.
SMS (text) message or email any picture or video taken in class to any person including themselves.
Access any type of mobile web browsing for any reason unless expressly directed to do so by the instructor.
Take any picture, video, or text of any class assignments or assessments without instructor permission.
3. E-Devices MAY NOT BE USED…
in the hallway when classes are in session, in a classroom (without instructor permission), bathrooms, locker
rooms, school offices (counseling, main, ASB, security, attendance, etc.), school health room, theatre, library, or
during any formal school presentation, or any school assembly. When entering any of these areas, students are
expected to place all E-Devices in the “OFF” or “SILENCE” mode and store them out of sight from the teacher
and other students. If an E-Device rings, vibrates, is used for any reason or is visible anytime in these locations,
a staff member reserves the right to confiscate the device. Refusal to surrender you E-Device when asked is
defiance. Defiance can result in disciplinary consequences.
4. Other Important Guidelines:
D E-Device use must not be disruptive to other students, staff, or to the overall school environment.
D Texting to other students while they are engaged in instructional time is prohibited.
D E-Devices must not be used in the CKHS Library without approval from library staff.
D Ear plugs or earphones must be used so that others will not be able to hear the sounds from one student’s E-Device. SPEAKERS
OF ANY TYPE MAY NOT BE USED.
D In the event of a student needing to leave school due to illness (or for any other reason), students must officially check out
through either the attendance office, health office, or main office with parent/guardian permission. Contacting your parent/
guardian with your personal E-Devices and leaving without school authorization is considered a truancy.
It is never acceptable to take photos or videos of other student or staff members without their permission.
D Students must never use E-Devices to bully or harass other students, faculty or staff in any way including, but not limited to, social media, text messages or phone calls. Violations of this policy will result in the immediate loss of E-Device privileges for a year.
The student’s E-Device will be confiscated and not returned to the student until a parent conference is held with the student and an
administrator.
D Electronic devices are not to be used during assessments, exams, or any type of testing, unless the classroom instructor has developed a specific protocol for necessitating their use.
DUE TO THE EVOLVING NATURE OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES, ADDITIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS MAY BE ADDED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR WITHOUT NOTICE
Consequences for Violation of Electronic Devices Policy
D 1st Incident –Conference with administrator (device released by office staff)
D 2nd Incident – Detention (device released by office staff)
D 3rd Incident – ISS, Parent/Guardian notified indicating next infraction requires parent pick-up of device (device released by office
staff).
D 4th Incident – Thursday school with phone call home requiring parent to pick up device. Administrator schedules conference with
student and parent. Discussion includes agreement that next and subsequent infractions include out of school suspension.
If a student refuses to surrender an electronic device to a staff member, an administrator will be called and the
incident will be handled as “defiance.”

THE
COUGAR
COMMUNICATOR
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at CKHS!
We look forward to supporting all of our students, families and staff
through a variety of programs in the coming year, and hope that you will
join us in whatever capacity works best for you. While we provide volunteers from Maze Days to Commencement and Grad Night, membership
does not obligate you to serve. Membership however, is a great way to support CKHS and to stay informed about what is happening in our school.
Thank you to everyone who helped with candy leis sales and tagging and washing ducks to support
our Grad Night Committee. We hope to offer another safe fun-filled night for our 2016 graduates! Fundraising efforts help to keep the ticket prices down as well as provide scholarships if needed. More information coming soon! Email ckhsgradnightckhsptsa@gmail.com
This year we will continue to assist students in need through CK Cares. We will be offering the National PTA cultural arts contest Reflections. Emergency Preparedness funds, PTSA Grants and Wish
List allow us to work with staff to identify and meet our ever-changing needs. We offer Testing Breakfasts before state mandated tests to support and encourage students and Staff Appreciation events to
honor staff. CKHS PTSA assists with Student Recognition efforts such as Distinguished Reader, Reading Challenge and the Student Recognition Breakfast. PTSA also funds various technology updates
each year. These and other PTSA activities would not be possible without your support! So as not to
compete with student groups and booster clubs, we rely primarily on membership fees and donations, including E-scrip donations from registered Safeway cards to fund these and other programs.
The Flowers to Go Fundraiser is our one major fundraiser for the year. Please consider asking
friends and neighbors! For only $25 you can purchase a card which allows you to pick up free flowers at
Flowers to Go, every month! Cards will be available at the PTSA Table at Maze Days.
We look forward to meeting and working with many of you this year. In order to serve you better we
would really like to hear your questions, concerns and suggestions. Please email us at
ckhsptsa@gmail.com and visit our website www.ckhsptsa.org for updated information.

Parent to Parent:
Tips for “Maze”
“Experienced PTSA Parents” have developed the following list of 5ps for families facing “back to school”
forms, fees and ac5vi5es. (These sugges ons do not necessarily reflect the posi on of the CKHS administra on.)
You will NOT receive a packet of forms in the mail; you will get a postcard and/or an email directing you to the August newsletter with all the dates, times and forms.
Pay all fees in advance if at all possible. The line for the cashier can get very long.
Fees can be paid online (credit card) or you can mail or deliver forms and payment to the school
(check/cash). https://touchbase.cksd.wednet.edu/
BRING RECEIPT to Maze Days. If you paid online, print your receipt; if you mailed payment you
can pick up your receipt at the beginning of the Maze. Students must have their receipts to get
their planner, locker etcetera.
If you are paying fees at Maze, have your paperwork ready before you get to the cashier. It will
speed up the process for everyone. Once students have their receipts they proceed through the
Maze, picking up schedules, getting locker assignments and a school identification card. Students
should be prepared to have their photo taken, even if they are not purchasing any pictures.
BRING COMPLETED FORMS: The following forms are available on the CKHS website and
should be brought to Maze: Health, Student Expectations, Disaster Release, and Parent Access, if
you don’t already have a Parent Access account.
There will be tables to return these forms and update emergency contact information. There will be
extra copies at Maze, but several of the forms need a parent signature as well as a student signature.
Volunteer at Maze Days: some students want a parent to accompany them and others prefer to
go through the Maze on their own. One way to balance this is to volunteer at Maze, so you are
available if needed. Email ckhsptsa@gmail.com for more information or to sign up.
Stay up to date: Join PTSA and receive info quickly via email! Use Social Media? Follow Principal
Coons on Twitter! @Principal_Coons and CKHS @CKHSCougars
Freshman Parents: Allow some additional time for Maze Day as this is a great no pressure opportunity for your student to familiarize him/herself with the school, locate classes and lockers.
Be sure to stop at the CKHS PTSA Table at Maze- paid members can pick up their free gift; anyone can get more information, register their Safeway card to support CKHS, sign up to volunteer
with our various programs and more.

CKHS PTSA: CK CARES
Helping students in need….
There are students at CKHS who cannot afford necessary educational materials, or who are unable to pay required
school fees. In response, CKHS PTSA established the CK Cares program. Generous donations have enabled us to build a library of calculators for student use, provide a wide range of supplies to students, pay for AP and other tests, purchase back
packs and assist with educational fees.
Your donation will help us continue this critical program. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

GRAD NIGHT 2016
Dear Parents of Seniors:
www.ckhsptsa.org
Every year the CKHS PTSA sponsored committee of parents provides an all-night celebration for the graduating seniors. This event provides a fun, safe and sober evening for our
graduates. This year, Grad Night will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, following the commencement ceremony.
We are looking for volunteers to help put this important event together. If you would like
more information or are able to help, please let us know. This does not obligate you to participate. Fundraising helps us to keep registration costs down and to offer discounts and
fee-waivers if needed.
