Organization:
Gateway Theatre is Richmond’s only professional theatre, producing 4 shows on the Main
Stage, 2 Studio productions, and a summer Pacific Festival (three productions from China).
Gateway also houses a play development program and year-long Academy classes for
ages 6 – adult, with vibrant volunteer, rentals, and community outreach programs.
Description:
May & June 2015 140 hours (work offsite permissible). Reporting directly to the Education
Manager, the Intern will conduct a research project, the results of which may be used to
shape future Gateway Academy programming and examine the effectiveness of current
programming. Expectations and goals will be set out by the Education Manager. Education
Research Intern duties (may) include the following:
• Design and execution of a market research project
• Applying a variety of research techniques to gather relevant information, including
document analysis, surveys, interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online)
• Developing focus groups
• Conducting information search regarding current arts organizations and schools
(local and national) which offer theatre arts training
• Data Entry and record-keeping
• Analysis, evaluation and interpretation of research findings
• Summary and Report writing
• Presentation of research results, both orally and in writing
• Other duties as required by supervisor
Qualifications:
• Interest in arts education for youth
• Ability to take initiative, and to work independently
• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Effective communication skills in both written reports and presentations
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite
• An awareness of the general Richmond community is an asset
• Relevant work experience gained in an area that requires contact with customers or
the general public, including retail, sales and/or marketing would be beneficial
• Experience in canvassing or market research interviewing is particularly useful
