UCL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES & INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION Evening Courses Syllabus Turkish Post Advanced Turkish Level 5 Prerequisite for entry Successful completion of Turkish syllabus level 4+ at UCL Language Centre or equivalent elsewhere (upon interview with tutor). An advance level of Turkish is required. Term duration 10 x 2-hour classes. Aims and Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students to become competent in the Turkish Language. It is designed to enable students to understand, speak, read and write Turkish with ease through authentic texts, articles, tasks and projects. Functions - Ability to interpret and analyse the works studied by giving proofs and expressing their opinions at a higher level of linguistic accuracy and complexity. Ability to master all previously studied functions in appropriate spoken and written manner. Course Content: Main topics/themes to be covered - - As in level 4+, the course content will be based around a reflection on the nature of contemporary society and current affairs including an analysis of the cultural dimension. The topic may include various current issues such as: Socio -cultural aspects of language and power. Second language learning; self construction and identity. Education and technology. Arts in language learning 1 - Translating written texts from Turkish to English and English to Turkish. Linguistic Structures/ Phonetics - Recognising/understanding various register/accents Recognising/understanding any kind of discourse. Grammar - All tenses. Structuring complex sentences with all forms of different tenses and connectors. Lining devices (lexical grammatical) Stylistic levels and formal registers. Lexical accuracy. Learning Resources Books - Course book: Rona, Bengisu, Turkish in three months(Hugo) will be used to revise grammar. - Dilmer 6 Learn Turkish - Level 5: Advanced, Innovative Language, Kindle edition.
