UCL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES & INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION Evening Courses Icelandic Level 2+ Prerequisite for entry Basic knowledge of Icelandic (successful completion of Icelandic syllabus 2 at UCL Language Centre or other comparable studies). Term duration 10 x 2-hour classes. Aims and Objectives The course aims to strengthen students’ basic knowledge of Icelandic to reach an intermediate level and to communicate in and understand Icelandic on many practical everyday matters related to various aspects of Icelandic culture. Work with noun declension will be continued, and students will tackle the declension of adjectives. Functions - Buying in shops Describing people (physical/moral descriptions) Expressing opinions Describing clothes that people are wearing/putting on/taking off Describing objects in the environment, using declension of adjectives & nouns with prepositions and verbs Cinema Icelandic food (þorramatur), television & radio Linguistic Structures/ Phonetics - Revision of basic rules of the pronunciation of f & g Revision of pronunciation of 3 different consonants in a row Softening of þ & ð.
