Proposal Summary
Explain the purpose for this proposal:
The purpose of this proposal is to update the credit and contact hours, description, and content outline to reflect the way it
is taught. The contact hours surpass the revised University guidelines ["One credit hour is awarded for a minimum three
clock hours (180 minutes) in a standard week of a 15-week semester, or for a minimum 45 clock hours (2,700 minutes) in a
semester"]. The credit hours are being revised from 6-12 to 4-6, which better reflects the internship experience of ECDE
students. The previous contact hours of 42-84 per week is not realistic nor accurate. Most students will now register for a 4
credit (previously 6) internship, which will require 300 hours in the field. The description and content outline are revised to
reflect the new hours, as this is not a full-day internship experience. Additionally, this course is supposed to be NO REPEAT
but the catalog does not list it that way.
Explain how this proposal affects program requirements and students in your unit:
A program revision is being submitted to decrease the credit requirements for this course from 6 to 4. This will reduce total
credits required for graduation but will still meet the minimum University standards. Currently, the roadmap outlines an 18credit semester for the block containing this course. Not only is this overload a financial burden for students, but some of
the content has shifted from this course to others. Additionally, time spent in the filed is not 630 hours per semester, as
listed in the course information, but 300. Therefore, a reduction in credits is justified.
