The fiber optic / RS-232 communication module
provides a flexible interface for SCADA applications.
The fiber optic port can be used in point to point or
fiber loop configurations. It incorporates an industry
standard ST Fiber connector for easy installation into
existing fiber applications. The module also includes
an RS-232 port for direct serial communication, or
connection to a radio or modem (land line or cellular).

Additionally, combining the RS-232 mode and an ST
Fiber connection will allow for multi-drop connections to
a single described RS-232 connected communications
device.
The RS-485 module, which supports multi-drop
applications, is available for copper media. This allows
serial communication in a bus topology reducing
installation and equipment costs.
The trend towards faster data rates and standardized
IT devices has necessitated a move to Ethernet
architecture, especially in the substation. In addition to
it’s speed, Ethernet architecture utilizes open standards,
so IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) communicate
seamlessly regardless of the manufacturer. Cooper fully
supports open standards and provides an Ethernet
Communication module for this application. This module
includes ST fiber and RJ-45 connections for maximum
flexibility.

The Ethernet communication module* provides serial
DNP3.0 communication over a TCP/IP Ethernet network
(DNP LAN/WAN). This eliminates the need for bridging
devices that convert serial to Ethernet, saving money
and time during installation. The Ethernet communication
module utilizes an RJ-45 and an ST fiber optic port. These
connectivity options provide flexibility when installing the
card in existing networks. The module also includes an
embedded web configuration utility, easing the installation
and configuration process. Support for 10BaseT,
100BaseTX, and 100BaseFX ensures the module will
integrate into common Ethernet implementations.
Finally, the Ethernet module supports static and dynamic
IP Addressing schemes (BOOTP, DHCP, AUTOIP). This
maximizes network address resources.

two communication ports, an RS-232 and an ST Fiber
Optic port. This allows the same module to be used in
various point to point or loop configurations. The RS-232
port can be directly interfaced to a radio, saving money
on multiplexing devices. The Fiber Optic / RS-232 module
supports DNP3.0 and 2179. This ensures compatibility
with today’s most commonly used serial protocols. The
ST fiber optic connector is designed for use with 65.2/125
multi-mode fiber optic cable.
Where multi-drop applications are necessary, use the
RS-485 communication module* from Cooper Power
Systems. This allows serial communication in a bus
topology reducing installation and equipment costs.
The RS-485 module utilizes a two wire (half-duplex),
three conductor, interface terminal block with a quick
release lever. The terminal block is detachable, making
installation a snap. The RS-485 module supports DNP3.0
and 2179 protocols, allowing it to integrate with the most
common serial communication schemes used today.
