Grammar in Context 3, Fourth Edition, by Sandra Elbaum
Course Description:
This course is designed to expand grammar usage to include adjective, noun,
and adverb clauses in oral and written communication. Students learn the
meaning and use of clause connectors and are introduced to conditionals, both
real and unreal. These grammar structures constitute some of the most complex
structures in English and expose students to a rich variety of structures that can
effectively enhance their oral and written expression.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Use the following grammar structures in original sentences and paragraphs:
gerunds and infinitives; clause and sentence connectors; adjective, adverb, and
noun clauses; and real and unreal conditionals.
2. Compare and contrast the following grammar structures focusing on form,
meaning, and purpose of each: gerunds with infinitives; adjective, adverb, and
noun clauses; real and unreal conditionals.
3. Edit for errors in the use of the following grammar structures: gerunds and
infinitives; adjective, adverb, and noun clauses; and real and unreal conditionals.
4. Select and apply sentence and clause connectors to paragraphs and essays
that express a variety of meanings, contexts and time frames (past, present, and
future time).
