Surge Protection Made Simple™ Surge Protective Overvoltage Devices (SurgePOD™) UL Recognized 1449 3rd Edition Type 1 SPD Modules for UL Type 1 and Type 2 Products • Standard and Universal industry sizes and voltages easily fit into new and existing SPD assembly designs • Patented MOV thermal disconnect technology eliminates the need for additional overcurrent protection • SurgePOD SPD modules meet the highest NEC® requirements with 200kA SCCR and 50kA surge rating making them ideal for all UL Type 1 and Type 2 SPD assemblies • Module color-coding makes it easy to identify ratings while optional local visual indicator tabs and remote contact signaling make status monitoring simple See data sheet #1170 • www.cooperbussmann.com/Surge SurgePOD Universal SPD Module Shown Pb Description Environmental Specifications Flammability Rating: UL 94V0 Operating and Storage Temperature Range: -25°C to 85°C Universal and standard Bussmann SurgePOD surge protective overvoltage devices are PCB-mountable SPD modules. Universal SPD modules are primarily differentiated from the standard SPD modules by having consistent terminal spacing dimensions for all Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (MCOV) ratings. Standard SurgePOD Module Catalog Number System Standard modules have two available terminal lengths and spacing dimensions vary by MCOV rating (see Standard SPD module dimensions for details) Series: SPOD = Standard terminal locations MCOV: 150, 270, 320, 420, 550 Terminal Length: S = Short - 5.6mm L = Long - 16.8mm Optional Visual Indicator Tab: T = Yes Blank = None Optional Remote Contact Signaling: R = Yes (Normally Open) Blank = None SPOD 320 When an overvoltage surge condition exceeds either the universal or standard SPD module’s MCOV, the patented MOV technology becomes conductive to safely shunt the surge to ground. This same MOV technology eliminates the need for additional fusing in UL applications by safely disconnecting the SPD module upon reaching an overvoltage breakdown condition. All universal and standard SurgePOD SPD modules are UL Recognized 1449 3rd Edition for use in Type 1 or Type 2 SPD products. Optional remote contact signaling is accomplished with a Normally Open microswitch that closes upon the module reaching an overvoltage breakdown condition. Optional local visual indication is accomplished with indicating tabs that protrude through the device’s top upon the module reaching an overvoltage breakdown condition.
