Cooper Controls Announces New Recessed MicroSet™ Occupancy Sensor
Peachtree City, Ga., May 7, 2008 – Cooper Controls Ltd., a division of Cooper Industries, today
announced the new Recessed MicroSet PIR occupancy sensor from its Greengate brand of Energy
Management Lighting Control products.
Unlike most industry standard surface mount sensors, Cooper Controls’ new recessed version enables
designers and specifiers to incorporate high technology PIR occupancy sensing without adding unsightly
ceiling clutter. The new sensor also includes Cooper’s patent pending MicroSet PIR technology, which
revolutionizes the notion of adaptive sensing and simplifies installation since no adjustments are
necessary.
“The new recessed MicroSet PIR occupancy sensor was designed to address the need for improved
aesthetics without compromising performance,” said Angela Maddox, Marketing Manager, Cooper
Controls North America.
The patent pending MicroSet technology is designed to minimize false activations by recognizing and
ignoring false signals and automatically and continuously self-adjusting the sensor sensitivity, all in realtime.
“Our daylighting strategies significantly increase energy savings for our customers,” said Maddox. “Most
standard occupancy sensors with built in daylighting sensors have trouble recognizing varying levels of
light, causing wasteful light cycling. Our sensors have an innovative DIP switch selectable option, as
well as a self-adjusting deadband, for proper operation under any conditions.”

The Greengate brand consists of an impressive array of products built on unique benefits and features.
Simplified specification, easy installation, low cost of ownership, best value and exceptional customer
service are standard features for each product offering. In addition, all Greengate lighting control panels
and sensors work together without any interfaces or compatibility issues.
Thirty-one states currently require products offered by Greengate in non-residential applications, with
more stringent codes and enforcement on the horizon. In addition to energy codes and standards like
ASHRAE and IEEE, Greengate products can contribute to more than 10 points towards a LEED
Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, www.usgbc.org).
