Cooper Power Systems Optimizes Efficiency, Productivity, and Reliability.
WAUKESHA, WI, January 24, 2012 – Utilities face significant challenges: An aging infrastructure,

The main goal of a Self-Healing Grid is to improve system reliability. Self-Healing solutions typically
reconfigure the system within one to five minutes. Cooper Power Systems offers a simplified customer
interface, enterprise level Yukon™ feeder automation software with the ability to communicate with
multiple vendor Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) using multiple protocols over different
communication media. Building on more than 60 years knowledge of distribution system apparatus,
sensors and controls, Cooper Power Systems utilizes a configuration tool with real-time distribution data
to detect and isolate faults quickly; a simulator, and advanced feeder automation algorithms proven to
reduce Customer Minutes Interrupted by 33% annually or more.
Substation Automation equipment should be able to monitor and control the grid in order to ensure a
fast response to real-time events with appropriate actions, and to maintain uninterrupted power
services. Cooper Power Systems substation automation products enable utilities to comply with the new
IEC 61850 Standard for grid integration and automation. The company’s SMP™ gateway is designed to
achieve interoperability and interconnectivity of IEDs with a wide range of supported protocols while
providing the first level of perimeter security. This solution is field-proven to save a utility hundreds of
hours in travel to substations annually.
Engineering Planning Optimization and Modeling Tools. The Cooper Power Systems CYME™
software provides powerful capabilities that support the detailed modeling of any distribution, industrial
or transmission network of any scale and complexity to improve network reliability and efficiency.
Creating balanced and unbalanced networks, secondary grids, substations, nested networks, whether
radial or meshed, three-, two- or single phased, is fully supported and can be represented schematically
or geographically. To bring the network representation even closer to reality, the software includes
extensive industry-standard equipment and control libraries that can be enhanced by the user.
Simulations can be performed on virtually any network configuration: plan distribution system
optimization, service restoration, fault analysis, reporting, power flow, and voltage drop; coordinate the
protective devices on a feeder to ensure proper selectivity; analyze thermal cable to determine the load
rating of a power cable installation; analyze network transmission, distribution, and industrial networks,
and optimize the design of substation grounding grids. This field-proven software has more than 250
customers worldwide, including investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, and municipalities.
End-Point Automation:
Advanced Metering infrastructure (AMI) is a system that measures, collects, and analyzes energy
usage, and communicates with devices such as electrical, gas, and/or water meters, either on request

or on a schedule. Cooper Power Systems AMI provides utilities the largest feature set, choice of meter
manufacturers, industry leading support, and unmatched flexibility to ensure the needs of all
departments, from billing to engineering, are met. The company’s Yukon software suite provides utilities
the opportunity to combine AMR/AMI with Demand Response, intelligent capacitor control, and

Demand Response (DR) extends intelligence from the utility system, to network communication, and to
the home-area-network for a smart change in the amount of electricity consumed during a certain period
of time. This change can be caused by a price change, or control signals initiated by electric utilities or
