Systems Reliability.

The Cooper Power Systems Energy Automation Solutions (EAS) group is a leading provider of innovative technologies that allow electric utilities to optimize their performance in the areas of Outage Detection and Restoration, Advance

Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Demand Response, Smart Sensors, and Distribution

Automation—all technologies that are critical to the overall development of a

Smart Grid. We help utilities plan, commission and develop successful programs that save money by improving performance, reducing maintenance, and enhancing safety.

Automation and integration to improve system efficiencies and reliability.

Distribution Feeder Automation

Electric utilities are continuously looking for ways to utilize technology to improve reliability by reducing the frequency and duration of customer outages. For nearly thirty years, electric utilities have relied primarily on faulted circuit indicators (FCIs) to assist them in locating outages within their system. These FCIs require physical inspection of the device locations to look for either a mechanical target or other type of indication.

The Cooper Power Systems OutageAdvisor Fault Detection and Location Solution provide a significant advancement in fault detection and location. It incorporates today’s flexible communication technologies with traditional fault circuit indicators to integrate FCI data into operation systems including

SCADA and Outage Management Systems.

Without the incorporation of dynamic solutions, distribution automation systems in operation today simply cannot keep pace with changing needs and equipment configurations. Today’s solutions have limited functionality or require complex third party engineering. After installation, systems can be difficult to modify as a result of limited configurability or the need to recontract with the original engineering vendor. As a result, both vendors and utilities tend to approach feeder reconfiguration as a “project” rather than an “integrated process.” Cooper Power

Systems has a revolutionary new solution.

Yukon Feeder Automation software includes a graphical user interface, object-oriented configuration, a simulator, communications dashboard, and post-event traceability allowing users to turn distribution automation into an integrated process.

Our robust, standardized tools empower utility engineers to easily change automation settings in hours rather than months by eliminating costly custom programming and “trial and error“ debugging. Utility engineers can now own the feeder automation process with Yukon’s many advanced tools

OutageAdvisor and the Yukon Feeder Automation software provide electric utilities the ability to achieve greater reliability and reduce expenses. Our distribution automation solutions are designed to quickly and accurately indicate both permanent and momentary faults, find their location, shorten response time, and improve reliability indices.

A Small Device with a Big Impact.

Cooper Power Systems is powering the Smart Grid with energy harvesting technology. The Energy Harvesting (EH) Power

Supply is communication neutral and can be used to power a variety of radios and sensors, harvesting the energy from power conductors. Its durable and robust design, with a patented clamp mechanism on the housing and spring-action closure of the transformer, allows for hot-stick installation on energized power lines.

The EH Power Supply’s flexible installation allows for deployment based on communication and location needs without the constraint of a 120-240VAC power source.
