Continuous Recessed Lighting and Mechanical System
Recessed architectural lighting installations are traditionally comprised of a collection
of individual fixtures that the designer places at strategic points to accomplish the
illumination task at hand. These fixtures must share ceiling real estate with other necessary
architectural elements and systems. Once the ceiling has been designed and approved,
the result can resemble a jumble of shapes and sizes that no longer carry the original
architectural vision of a clean and welcoming environment.
RSA’s Continuous Channel solves this problem by combining high performance recessed
architectural lighting products and other ceiling elements into one clean, continuous,
linear housing. The result preserves the architectural integrity of the ceiling.
An example of Continuous Channel may consist of a run of a 20’ run of accent and
general downlighting interspersed with HVAC supply diffusers, a surveillance camera,
and fire sprinkler heads, all within a single linear ceiling opening. Lighting electrical and
power supplies are mounted right to the channel for ease of maintenance. Continuous
Channel can accommodate a wide array of low voltage, line voltage and metal halide
lamp sources. Other features include:

drawings with every order.

Combining Elements
Continuous Channel is not only a state-of-the-art architectural
lighting system. In this example, HVAC modules have been
fitted into the linear lighting runs to maintain a clean look
and feel on the ceiling. By combining these essential ceiling
elements into one clean, continuous length, a great deal of
open space is retained throughout the horizontal plane, which
can help to create a more welcoming environment.

This example demonstrates Continuous Channel’s versatility

in combining different point source and fluorescent lamps
in the same installation. The housing size is dictated by the
largest lamp, the PAR30MH in this case. Where a subtler
display lighting effect is desired, MR16’s are used. The
smaller lamps are retrofitted with a longer gimbal arm to
adapt to the larger housing. A dual T5HO fluorescent module
is added into the application as well as a surveillance camera
and P/A speaker.

CONTINUOUS CHANNEL™ - MODIFICATIONS
Have it your way
No two Continuous Channel installations are the same. Each
job comes with a set of requests that RSA will meet every
time. Listed here are a few examples of the way lighting
designers have utilized Continuous Channel to meet their
CONTINUOUS CHANNEL™ - MODIFICATIONS
needs. We encourage your ideas.
A custom side wall extrusion was created for this
application. 20 Amp track is mounted inside the
channel to accommodate custom dual-head 120V
MR16 fixtures for extreme aiming angles. Fluorescent
T8 lamps are installed end-to-end along the length
of the housing for general illumination. Laminated
double Solite lenses cover the opening and are flush
with the ceiling in this trimless installation.
Top mounted electronics with removable access door
on the roof of the housing. This was to accommodate
a very limited space with obstructions on both sides
of the housing.
A Continuous Channel wall wash application. Linear
spread lenses were angle-mounted inside the channel.
Special top mounted yoke lamp holders were used
so that the lamps could be recessed further into the
housing and adjusted to the extreme angle required.
This example shows Continuous Channel in a surface
mounted application. We have shipped jobs for
suspended surface mounting as well.
