Sub-committee Report:
N. Caine-Bish presented the sub-committee’s report. In 2011, all courses designated as Kent Core were required to develop learning assessment plans. In May 2012, URCC was given the task of developing an assessment plan for the entire Kent Core learning objectives. The sub-committee determined that in order to effectively measure learning outcomes, the University needs an Assessment Office operated by a full-time staff with expertise in higher education valuation. This office could help collect data for the
Higher Learning Commission as well as for in-house usage. Further, the sub-committee indicated an
Implementation Committee should be established to execute the Assessment Office rather than a work group of URCC. The sub-committee requested the support of URCC to present this report to EPC and
Faculty Senate. The concept of a University Assessment Office appears to be sound in its conception but the report needs further development. With the support of URCC, it was determined that Drs. Palmer and Caine-Bish will make an appointment with the Provost to discuss the concept of a University
Assessment Office.
There being no other business before the committee, meeting adjourned at 3:35 pm.
