SIGs are sometimes used to pull individuals for committees and are an excellent way to communicate with professions in your field of interest. • Each SIG publishes a newsletter, “Perspectives” Special interest groups within the ASHA community often look for graduate students to cultivate into future leaders. National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) www.nsslha.org/ Membership cost $60 Mel, our chapter’s president, spoke about the benefits of membership to NSSLHA. • Members receive The ASHA Leader, a monthly publication by ASHA. • Members receive an ASHA login to access all journals and use of Haywire a search engine specifically developed for communication science professionals • NSSLHA publication “NSSLHA Now!” are mailed out to members twice a year • Discounted registration rate at ASHA Annual Conventions • Discounted liability insurance, some internships require insurance • NSSLHA-to-ASHA membership conversion program requires that you’re a member of NSSLHA for two consecutive years leading up to the year of your graduation for a $225 discount and one year membership prior to graduation is $50 off ASHA membership. Dr. Stevens was a previous president of MSHA. We’ll email the link for purchasing apparel in the beginning of next week. The online cart will be available for purchasing apparel for a week and a half. Yankee Candle Fundraiser Yankee Candle orders are due Friday 9th by noon. Drop off completed order forms in Mrs. Kowalski’s office in the green box. We will be emailing members who signed up to volunteer with the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. Help will be needed to sort product when it comes in and pass out product. Check out our how much money we’re raised on our bulletin board. The fundraising thermometer gauges our level of money raised. Our goal is to reach $2000 by end of year. Princeton Review GRE Free Practice Test See handout with steps to access free GRE test online www.emich.edu/nsslha Princeton Review provides scores Speaker next Wednesday, November 14th at 9:30am in room 232 Audiologist working in cochlear implants at University of Michigan Hospital will be discussing specialty in cochlear implants and collaboration with SLPs. Adopt-A-Family We’ve requested 2 families for Adopt-a-family. Once we receive we will post on the board/email. Members will receive a point for contributions. Next meetings Tuesday 20th 4:30pm Wednesday 21st – No classes for holiday- NSSLHA meeting CANCELLED! December 4th and 5th regular meetings No speaker in December, instead planning a get together to hang out for either the 11th or 12th. We’ll order food and have snacks. Will keep you posted.
