Director Forums in the other months.— The chairs will
evaluate the recommendation to change the meeting schedule.
Submitted by Venessa Pinto, MD
ICU Medical Director Forum: initiated with the goal
of fostering collaboration among the adult ICUs, the ICU
medical directors began informally meeting in 2006. The
RRT Update: April KapuApril provided data through 2015 (attached) on RRTs from the
REDCap database. Most calls are for the SICU team with the
MICU team a close second. The highest volume units are 7T3,
9 North, 10T3 and 6 North. April noted some calls are not
answered by the NPs who complete the data since they may be
on other calls. Questions regarding destination of patients who
are moved to a higher level of care can be answered with
further review of the data set.—April will provide additional
information as required.
Cortrak Small Bore Feeding Tube Placement– Kathy
Burns
Accreditations and Standards has asked for clarification of who
can place Dobhoff tubes. In most but not all of the ICUs
nurses have been trained to place the tubes using the Cortrak.
There is not a formal competency, but an expectation that staff
who have not been trained will have hands-on oversight before
preforming the procedure. To clarify who is permitted, a
recommendation was made to add language that “small-bore
feeding tubes are placed by staff who are trained to perform
the procedure.” Kathy was asked to take the issue to the ICU
managers for final resolution. Additional questions regarding
use of KUB to verify placement when the Cortrak is used were
deferred.—Barbara will invite Kathy to attend the next ICU
managers meeting for further discussion.
ICU medical directors

THE VANDERBILT HOUSE STAFF ADVISORY COUNCIL (HSAC)
This organization is advisory to the Executive Director of Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the purposes of communication of information to
house staff, problem identification, provision of counsel to other hospital organizations, when required, and to provide representation of the house
staff in these and all other matters pertinent to house staff, patients and the Vanderbilt affiliated hospital programs.
The Council is composed of one representative and alternate from all ACGME accredited programs. The Director of Graduate Medical Education is an
ex-officio member and does not vote.
The representatives are appointed annually and may serve an unlimited number of terms. At the discretion of individual departments, representatives
may be elected to office by a majority of residents within that department or may be appointed by the department Chief Resident or residency director.
They shall hold office from July 1st until the following June 30th. The HSAC will be advised at the last meeting of the academic year whether the acting
representative intends to continue in this position for the next 12 months or whether the representative will step down and be replaced, and, if possible, the HSAC should be notified as to who that replacement will be.
