F1 General Medicine – Cardiology
Cardiology
 Part of team managing two coronary care wards (32 beds)
 Daily consultant led (7 days a week)
 Ward jobs (e.g. cannula, bloods etc.)
 Planning discharges and TTO’s
 Requesting and chasing investigations
 Rewriting drugs
 MDT meetings - Tuesday lunchtime JCC
 Communication with patients and families
 Liaising with cardiac nurse specialists and catheter laboratory staff
 Assistance in managing acute cardiac emergencies including clerking of
patients following primary angioplasty for acute MI
 One grand round and one medical grand round meeting per week
 One week “off ward” includes ETT, echo, clinics, then pm in cath lab
