Source: DSL Forum's WT-126 • Conclusions The introduction of Ethernet Metro networks in ETECSA constitutes the main core for the development of ETECSA’s target network guarantying the growing requested by the MIC in the triennium, as well as the incorporation of new services like IPTV. The experiences on IPTV services validation in Telecom Italia using Free Probe has been the starting point of valuable research experiences carried out in ETECSA together with the development and programming of an IPTV service platform used in this telecom company. It was done as from the study of the VideoLAN software code source which reduced the cost of research stage. The proposal of using Free Probe to validate the quality profile of ETECSA’s IP network makes it an important alternative for the expensive purchase of Shadow Router dedicated to this unique function that can be extended to other services in real time like VoIP with an adaptation of the MDI metric. The fulfillment of the recommendations made at the DSL Forum WT-126 is the base of IPTV quality service in SD and HD formats, for which networks must meet the quality profile according to UIT-T Y 1541. The application of probes with T-Factor metric can be enlarged to quality validation of TDT and 3G mobile systems.
