your storm water fees at work
December 2009
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is working
with the City of Charlotte’s Real Estate Division and
Wildlands Engineering, Inc. to complete easement
acquisition for the Glassy Creek Stream Restoration Project.
Real Estate agents will be contacting property owners if
their parcel has been identified as an area of proposed
work. Typically, the easement areas will be near the open
channels.
For more information about this project and schedule,
please visit our website at http://stormwater.charmeck.org
and click on Storm Water Projects, Storm Water Projects
again, then Glassy Creek.
If you have any questions about this project, please contact
the Project Manager, Danée McGee at 704-336-4102 or
email dmcgee@charlottenc.gov.
Next, the project will be entering the planning and design
phase. The consultant will be collecting and analyzing
the survey from the neighborhood. Several improvement
alternatives are developed and evaluated to determine the
best solution. Permitting, bid and construction will follow.
Tree Seedling and Rain Barrel Sale
Saturday, January 23, 2010
The annual tree seedling and rain barrel sale is
right around the corner. Did you know December
through March is the best time to plant bare root
trees? So, mark your calendars now to come out and
get great deals on tree seedlings and rain barrels.
Not only are rain barrels ecologically friendly,
they are pocket-friendly, too. Rain barrels provide
chemical-free water for your yard and garden
reducing the need for treated water.
Capturing the water that flows off your roof keeps rain water out of storm
drains and allows it to flow into the ground, replenishing the groundwater
supply. A one-inch rainfall over a 1,000 square foot roof provides more than
620 gallons of water. With the overflow valve you can direct this water to
your garden or any other area of your yard.
Rain barrels MUST be pre-ordered by Monday, January 11 by calling
704-336-2455 or visiting www.mecklenburgconservation.com.
