Edwards Branch Phase III storm drainage improvement project YOUR STORM WATER FEES AT WORK May 30, 2008 Dear Resident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (Storm Water) held a public meeting on May 1, 2008 at Winterfield Elementary School for Phase III of the Edwards Branch Storm Drainage Improvement Project. • The meeting reviewed existing conditions and proposed improvements to the project drainage systems. Meeting highlights: • Project areas A, B & D (shown on reverse) in Evergreen Cemetery have erosion problems due to non-native plants and concentrated flows going into the wetland system. The proposed improvements include a pocket wetland and channel improvements. Locations of large trees were surveyed and taken into account in proposed improvements; no large trees are planned to be removed. The consulting engineer, CH2M HILL, is proposing stream restoration for much of the Winterfield Tributary watershed. At the upstream end of Winterfield Tributary (Project areas C and F), two improvements are planned to address the storm water flowing into it. Within the Willow Park BMP (Project area E), a modification to the BMP is planned to better control the flow/release of the storm water. At the Lansdale Drive culvert outlet, a series of step-down structures of placed rocks and logs followed by small pools are We are currently finalizing the Planning Phase. The Design Phase is anticipated to begin during the fall of 2008, which includes developing construction drawings for the proposed improvements. This phase typically lasts 21 to 34 months. DA L E • planned to slow down the flow of the storm water. Much of the stream restoration will realign the channel to meander and allow storm water to flood the forest floor during rain events. The residents also expressed concern that a bridge remain across Winterfield Tributary. Suggestions were given on alignments and residents emphasized the need for trail access in the area.
