A native of Surfers Paradise, Australia, Dr. Graeme Rankine is associate professor of
accounting and academic director of the SABIC Executive MBA (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia)
Program at Thunderbird School of Global Management. He has been academic director
of the LG Electronics Executive MBA (Seoul, South Korea), the EMBA-Europe (Prague,
Czech Republic) Program, and the EMBA-Asia (Taipei, Taiwan) Program.

Prior to joining Thunderbird, he taught at Rice University in Houston, Texas, where he
received several teacher recognition awards including the Student Association Mentor
Recognition Award, the Amoco Teaching Award, the Nicolas Salgo Distinguished
Teaching Award, and the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize. At Thunderbird, he was the
EMBA Outstanding Professor of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013,
and the Outstanding MBA Professor in 2010.
Graeme has been academic director of Thunderbird’s Strategic Finance and Accounting
for Oil & Gas Leaders program. He has taught executive education programs in the
energy sector including those for ARCO (China), British Petroleum (U.S.), CEZ (Czech
Republic), ExxonMobil (Europe, Asia, U.S.), MOL Group (Hungary), National Oil Company
of Libya, and Unocal (U.S.). He also has taught a variety of programs in Central and
Eastern Europe including those for Danone (Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland),
DHL (Czech Republic), Kraft (Czech Republic), and T-Mobile (Czech Republic, Slovakia).
His research is published in leading journals including The Accounting Review, Journal
of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of
Accounting, Ethics and Public Policy, Journal of Accounting and Finance Research, and
Issues in Accounting Education. His co-authored research on corporate name changes
was discussed in The Wall Street Journal. His co-authored research on stock splits is
the subject of numerous columns including those in The Wall Street Journal, Individual
Investor, U.S. News & World Report, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Forbes and
Business Week.
Graeme completed his Ph.D. in business administration at the University of Washington
(Seattle, Washington). He received a bachelor of economics (honours) from the Australian
National University, Canberra, Australia.
