Moffett is an associate professor of finance and holds the Continental Grain Professorship in Finance at Thunderbird School of Global Management. He also is the academic director of the school’s Thunderbird International Consortia, partnership programs among globally focused companies in Thunderbird Executive Education. A three-time recipient of Thunderbird’s Outstanding Professor Award, Michael’s areas of expertise include international financial management and the financial management issues unique to the oil and gas industry. He is well known for his knowledge on the financial management of multinational firms, with a focus on cash flow and capital requirements for effective strategy execution, the valuation of subsidiaries, repatriation of profits, and management of financial risk. Prior to joining the Thunderbird faculty in 1994, Michael was an associate professor at Oregon State University, and has served as a visiting professor at a multitude of universities around the world including the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, the Bergen Institute (Norway), the Aarhus School of Business (Denmark), the International Centre for Private Enterprises (Ljubljana, Slovenia), the Indian School of Business (Hyderabad, India), and the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also is a former research fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. His expertise has been tapped by more than 50 multinational firms in North and South America, Europe and Asia, and during the past 20+ years he has taught and consulted in more than 25 countries. Michael earned his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1985.
