Thank you for meeting on Tuesday, October 20, to share your concerns. Below is a summary of actions taken or in progress to address them. • • • • • Current Construction Conditions o On Friday, October 23, the contractor washed, swept and picked up loose roadway material. o Asphalt will be placed in areas where the roadway is raveling and will taper around exposed manholes. Contractor hopes to complete the work today. o Contractor swept entrance area at contractor’s leased lot at corner of Providence and Scotland. o Staff will continue to work on dust control throughout the project with contractor. Street after Construction o Contractor is tentatively scheduled to pave Scotland next week. o Staff is evaluating curb and gutter replacement and milling/resurfacing limits (both width and length) on Biltmore. o The timing of paving Biltmore is dependent on outcome of Charlotte Water’s evaluation and potential of additional sewer repair work. Condition of Water & Sewer Lines (Charlotte Water) o Origin of sewer back up at 1631 Biltmore (Mr. Hardwick) was located and repaired. o Video inspection of sewer along Biltmore Drive is schedule to begin Monday, October 26, to determine if additional work is needed. o Extensive rehab to the water system was completed within the past 10-15 years. Water quality testing will be completed at a few locations as an initial screening. If problems are found additional testing will be completed. Safety for Halloween o Staff is evaluating what can be done in preparation for Halloween night visitors on Biltmore. Communication o Storm Water Services is working to identify specific actions to improve communication with Biltmore Drive residents. We’re working to determine the most effective communication approach for the construction inspector to share construction schedule updates. I will provide email updates on how we are addressing these concerns and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Joel Hardison, Construction Inspector, will continue to be your main point of contact for construction related questions. You can reach him at 704-299-1994 or jdhardison@charlottenc.gov. Thank you, Jennifer Smith Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services Division Manager, City of Charlotte
