For Immediate Release May 21, 2015 WATER QUALITY ADVISORY LIFTED FOR POND IN PARK ROAD COMMUNITY PARK Charlotte, NC – A WATER QUALITY advisory issued on May 15, 2015 for the pond at Park Road Community Park was lifted today. On May 15, sampling results revealed elevated bacteria levels in the pond (see attached map) following a sewage spill of approximately 3,280 gallons from a broken sewer line that discharged to the stream that flows to the pond. The discharge was stopped by Charlotte Water after being reported. Rusty Rozzelle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ Water Quality program manager, said the advisories are standard procedure. "It is important to ensure that citizens are aware of potential risk to human health from polluted waters so they can take the appropriate precautions by avoiding contact.” said Rozzelle. Water samples have been collected in the pond daily since May 15, 2015 by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ staff. Laboratory results from the bacteria samples collected from the pond on May 19, 2015 were within safe levels, therefore the WATER QUALITY advisory has been lifted.
