“WATER QUALITY” ADVISORY ISSUED FOR THE POND AT PARK
ROAD COMMUNITY PARK FOLLOWING SEWAGE DISCHARGE
Charlotte, NC – A WATER QUALITY advisory was issued today for the pond at the Park Road
Community Park located at 6220 Park Road in Charlotte.
The WATER QUALITY advisory was issued after water sampling results revealed elevated bacteria
levels in the pond (see attached map) following a sewage spill of approximately 3,280 gallons from a
broken sewer line that discharged to the stream that flows to the pond on May 12, 2015. The discharge
was stopped by Charlotte Water after being reported.
Staff with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will continue to sample water quality in the pond
until bacteria levels fall within safe levels at which time the WATER QUALITY advisory will be lifted.
Rusty Rozzelle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ Water Quality program manager, said the
advisories are standard procedure. "It is important to ensure that citizens are aware of potential risk to
human health from polluted waters so they can take the appropriate precautions by avoiding contact.” said
Rozzelle.
