Countries: Experience from Qatar
Ahmed Mehrez* and Maha Ali**
Oil countries always attract professional employees in different fields. Some recent reports
show clear shortage among these countries’ own people in such fields. This research
explores cultural attitude in these oil countries joining scientific majors. This investigation is
likely to be done by examining Qataris attitude related to self-influence, parents influence,
and society influence where these cultural variables would affect career path. Findings show
that Qataris’ attitudes are mostly affected by self-influence and society influence, but not
necessarily by parents influence. It is also found that self, parents, and society do not
differently influence males and female attitudes.
Key words: Attitude, Qataris, Science, Self-influence, Parents influence, Society influence
